There was a knock at the classroom door. I slightly jump at the sudden sound. I frantically smoothe out my hair and lightly pinch my cheeks to make them look flushed a bit. "Come in!" I say in a sing-song voice. Felix Valentine, Johnny Valentine's dad, my high school sweetheart, walked in. Still looking as good as he did in high school. I flash him a smile and say, "Please, sit down." With a sly smirk, he took a seat. "So we meet again, Mel." He said with a light chuckle. I blush and say, "We've gotta stop meeting like this!" I say as I giggle.
He's sitting in a chair across from my desk opposite of me. I lean in and so does he. His forearms crossed on the desk. "So what'd my son do this time?" I playfully roll my eyes and sigh. "Well, there was an altercation. He got frustrated with today's assignment so he threw a tantrum, and, well, his pencil. It struck another student but her condition wasn't too serious. I thought I should call you anyways. I hope it wasn't too inconvenient." Shaking his head no, he replied with, "Nah, it's no big deal." He said smiling. "He's in the car with his grandma at the moment." I nodded and said, "Well, just thought I'd let you know. It was nice seeing you again, Felix."
We both got up simultaneously and hugged. It's always nice having certain people from your past still in your life. It reminds you of all the good times. I walked him to the door and said goodbye. He took one step outside of the classroom and stopped. "Uhh, Melanie?" I looked back at him, "Hmm?" He locked eyes with me for a split second before shifting his eyes, and then looking back at me again. "Maybe we could go get a drink sometime. You know, if you're free or something. We could catch up a little." He shot me a half smile. "Uhh, yeah. I'd like that. I don't have class on Friday, so maybe then." He exhaled. He seemed relieved. "Alright then, call me." He shot me one last smile before turning and heading down the hall to the front doors.
I turn back into my classroom and sit back down in my desk. This was the first time in a long time that I've felt anything. I lean back in my chair and close my eyes and smile. My little trans got quickly interrupted by the last bell. This means Mr. Clemmons is probably expecting me. There's no use in sitting and waiting for him to call me down, so I just start making my way to the office.
When I get there, I see Mr. Clemmons right away. He motions me to come over with his index finger. An exasperated sigh escaped my mouth. Reluctantly, I trudged over to him. I stepped into his own little office space and waited for him to talk. He sat down in his chair behind his desk. I still stood in front of his desk. He clasped his hands together and set them on his desk in front of him. "Ms. Tsang," He started. I coldly replied, "It's Ms. Black now."
