The loud clunking of my footsteps rang down the hallway until it was drowned out by the deafening chattering of immature teenagers piling out of classes and cramming books into their bags as they once again joined the colony of bees towards the dorms.
On a normal days basis, I would be joining that bustling crowd but today I am currently seeking room 190.
Not particularly looking forward to an hour of writing an essay on being disruptive, I take my time arriving to the classroom thinking up an excuse for being late. Maybe I can sweet talk the teacher and say I didn't know where the room was?
I decide to go with the plan.
I hear distant music coming from the direction I'm heading and with each step I take nearing the door, the louder the music gets.
Unable to comprehend as to why there would be music in detention I wonder if I'm heading in the right way.
I push gingerly at the hard-worn door, as soon as it opens a gush of warm air and waves of pounding music slap me in the face.
I look around for a teacher but there's no sense of authority in sight.
In the back of the room near all the band equipment two guys are dancing on a table while others surround and cheer them on, laughing about the mess they're making.
A guy with cornrow braids has his laptop on the desk plugged into the speakers and motions for his friend to check the door for any teachers patrolling the area.
I grab a vacant desk and observe the amusing scene knowing it's bound to end in another detention for them.
One guy stops dancing and nudges the other gesturing towards the band equipment, "X, play us a beat mate". X jumps off and smirks.
Turning around, his eyes circle the room and meet mine before quickly snapping away. The guy from the club....
"Any requests?"
The little crowd huddling around the table and shout multiple song titles.
He nods to one guy and twirls the drumsticks like he's rehearsed it many times before.
Show off.
When he starts playing the other friend Luke jumps down plugs in the electric guitar.
He joins in playing his guitar in since with X's drum playing and they sound epic. Obviously part of a band.
"Code red!" some guy yells from the door. Everyone scatters away from the scene while Luke and X take no notice.
"Guys seriously she's coming!".
Once Mrs Heinrich reaches the door, Luke and X have already sat down and exchange looks of amusement.
Mrs Heinrich slams her books down on the desk that was once occupied by the noisy speakers, but now dead-silent.
Pushing her glasses down her nose, she examines the room carefully, noticing unusually good behaviour.
I shift uncomfortably and look back at the two mischiefs slumped in their chairs, X glancing my way with a side-grin.
Adrenalin infuses my body like an aroma I can't get rid of, my heart doesn't stop beating faster and faster.
I turn and look over at Mrs Heinrich who returned the glance with a sickly sweet smile.
"Staring at Mr Lyall are we?" I look down embarrassed, not because I should feel intimidated but rather because I'm such an obvious idiot.
I can feel his beaming face behind me. Mocking me.
Since when was he such a jerk... at the club he was another person.
The lesson dragged on and she walked around the room lecturing each one of us.
While others genuinely looked scared, I looked bored.
X and Luke clicked their pens and shared the same emotion, giving off the impression that they are miles too used to this.

"You survived!" screams Faye, she runs up and embraces me in a tight hug as I nearly trip at the doorway.
Luckily the other two weren't in the dorm or I'd be stacked like Jenga.
"Where's Rosalie and Dulce?" I ask, she shrugs "Common room I suppose, but before we join them you're telling me how the detention with Mrs Heinrich went", she rolls her 'r' at the surname causing me to laugh.
"Oh you know, it was ok......" I pause. And she raises her eyebrow.
Finally giving in I tell her about X.
Widened eyes she draws a big breath in and examines my face. Her eyes inspect mine as she leans in closer.
"You like him".
I pull back, "it was one time Faye".
"Your pupils are dilating".
I collapse with laughter and Faye wears a puzzled expression.
"What's so funny?"...I think before I reply "Everything".
And it was true. The possibility of X and I meeting was so coincidental, it was absurd.
