'You killed her.'
The handle strikes twelve, as I lie in bed in silence, only the timed ticking of the clock keeping me company. The words ring in my head, repeating endlessly, reminding me of what had happened. What I had done. How it was my fault. The guilt has been eating me up this past week, and it has gotten to the point where I physically cannot face my own reflection. I feel disgusted. Disgusted at myself. At my actions. For listening to them. For not thinking twice before pulling the trigger.
My thoughts halt to a stop when knocks sound from my bedroom door. I do nothing to stop the person from entering, allowing them to see the ragged state I'm in. I watch in stillness, my breaths even, as the person nears me, their eyes trained on my very own. The floor creaks under their weight, their gloved hands making contact with my face, as their knees hit the edge of my bed. The strength of their grasp suggests it's a male, but I could be far from sure. My hands begin to shake, wanting to move, to do something to stop this person from touching me, from the possible attack I could be facing in a matter of seconds, but dreariness weighs it down. I'm so tired. Physically and mentally, that I let the person continue to take a hold of my face and eventually take a seat on the mattress of my bed.
Sleep is the first thing on my mind, despite the intruder in my room. I find comfort in their warm grasp, so much so that my eyes begin to close, tiredness pulling me away from the reality in front of me. I begin to drift off, leaning into the palm of the hand still firm on my face, now tracing circles with the pad of their thumb on my cheek. Who was this? I try, I try so hard to open my eyes, to try and push off this potential threat, fighting sleep, yes I can't seem to do it, so I let myself, just this once, fall into a tranquil sleep.
