I walk into the mechanic shop to see how far the mechanic is with my jeep. It broke down on me a few days ago. And he has the whole bottom of my jeep taken apart.

"Hey. Hey!" I walk over to him. "Wha-what do you think you're doing? All I needed was a starter."

"Yeah, but it looks like your whole exhaust system has gotta be replaced too."

"Why do I get the feeling you're slightly overestimating the damage?"

"It's probably gonna run you around, like, 1200, parts and labor."

"Are you kidding me? This thing doesn't even have a catalytic converter. And, yes, I know what a catalytic converter is."

He stops working and looks at me. "You know what a limited-slip differential is?"

".....No."

"Yeah, could run you more like 1500." He explains as he continues working.

I sigh in frustration. "Okay, just finish." I step away from him, going to the office where I can wait. "I'll be back here--seething with impotent rage." I get to the door and grab the handle, quickly letting go. "Oh, nice." Seeing now that my hand is covered in clear goo. "Real sanitary. Quality establishment you're running here." I open the door, wiping the goo on my jacket.

I take out my phone, and I can't move my thumbs to type. My hands start shaking, making my phone fall out of my hands. I stare at my hands, trying to get them to stop shaking and I look out the window into the shop. I see a scale-like hand with claws on top of my jeep. "Uh....Hey. Hey!" I see the creature slash the back of the mechanic's neck and go out of sight. "Hey!" I try to turn to go towards the door and I fall. I try to crawl to the door where my phone ended up and I try to call 911 as I see the lift slowly going down, where the mechanic fell. I press the nine and my vision starts getting blurry. I hear the guy start calling to help as I finish hitting the other numbers... I close my eyes as it crushes him and I hear a clang. I open my eyes back up and flinch as the creature jumps in front of me on the other side of the glass door, hissing at me. After several seconds, it leaves just as the dispatcher answers my call.

"911, what's your emergency?"

The police got there and I'm sitting in the back of an ambulance with Dad, looking at my hand.

"I told you, I just--I walked in and I saw the jeep on top of the guy, that's all."

"What's wrong with your hand?"

I shake it, like I'm trying to wake it up. "Nothing. Can I just get out of here now?"

"Look, if there's something you don't think you can tell me--"

"You think I'm lying?"

"No, of course not. I'm just worried about you. Now, if you saw someone do this, and if you're afraid that maybe they're gonna come back and make sure you don't say anything about it--"

"I didn't see anything. At all. Can I go now, please?"

Dad nods. "Sure. But not in your jeep. We're gonna have to impound it." Dad cuts me off before I go to protest. "Sorry, kid, evidence. See you at home." He pats my back and walks away.

I sigh, running my hands through my hair. "Look, at least make sure they wash it!" I text Stiles and I hang out for a few minutes, waiting. I look up and I see Scott's car pull up. I jog over and get in the back since Stiles is in the front passenger seat. They both look back at me when I close the door.

"You okay?" Scott asks softly.

"Yeah... You're right. It's not like you. I mean, its eyes were almost, like, reptilian. But there was something about 'em."
