I meet up with Stiles, Scott, and Allison in the library the next day at school. I already showed her the pages and we walked into the library together. Allison and Scott had to pretend they weren't seeing each other so she was on the side of the shelf. I look through my bag and take out my tablet which has certain pages of the bestiary translated into English, showing it to the older teens.

"It's everything Lydia could translate. And trust me, she was very confused."

Scott looks at me. "Yeah, what'd you tell her?"

"That we were part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures." Scott and Allison stifle a laugh while Stiles looks serious.

"I am part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures."

"O-oh. That's great, bro."

"Okay, does it say how to find out who's controlling him?" Scott asks.

I shake my head. "Not really."

"But Stiles was right about the murderers." Allison states.

Stiles smiles and does a small fist pump. "Yes!"

"It calls the Kanima a weapon of vengeance. There's a story in there about this South American priest who uses the Kanima to execute murderers in his village–" I continue.

"All right, see?" Stiles interrupts. "So maybe it's not all that bad."

"Until the bond grew strong enough that it killed whoever he wanted it to."

"All bad, all very, very bad."

Allison leans in more. "Here's the thing, though. The Kanima's actually supposed to be a werewolf. But it can't be..." She pauses as the Librarian walks over to get a book.

" 'Until it resolves that in its past which manifested it.' " Scott reads from the tablet and looks at Stiles.

"Okay, if that means that Jackson could use a few thousand hours of therapy, I could've told you that myself."

I glance at each of the older teens. "What if...it has something to do with his parents? His real parents."

"Yeah, does anybody actually know what happened to them?"

I shrug. "Lydia might."

"What if she doesn't know anything?"

"Well, he doesn't have a restraining order against me, so... I'll talk to him myself." Allison suggests.

"Okay, what do I do?" Scott asks.

She smiles a little. "You have a make-up exam, remember?" She lightly holds his hand through the shelf. "Promise me."

"If he does anything, you run the other way."

"I can take care of myself."

"Allison, if you get hurt while I'm busy with some stupid test, someone's going to need to take of me. If he does anything..."

"Like?"

"Anything...weird or bizarre– anything."

Stiles sticks his head through the shelf to her. "Anything evil."

I roll my eyes. "Stiles." I grip the back of his shirt at the same time she pushes back over to us by his face.

"Aw...ow!"

I walk out of class with Lydia (I'm in the same grade, even though I'm a year younger), asking her about Jackson's parents.
