The train had been driving for several hours. The lavender fields had disappeared and been replaced by suburbs with plenty of identical houses. I had been reading for the whole trip. I could not wait to see my friends again for this Parisian getaway. Far enough from my small town.
Now, I could see the Eiffel Tower between some old buildings. I handed my suitcase and made my way to the doors, while the train was slowing down. I started to be filled with excitement. One of my best friends at the time, Allie, held me in her arms, as soon as I get out of the train.
It was late afternoon and I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the sunset. Going to the hill. Montmartre. What a suicidal idea for someone who just went through a breakup! But I wanted to be there. To feel this energy of new beginnings. I put my suitcase at Allie's house and Elizabeth joined us.
