Rowan was dead, or so claimed Wednesday. She said she witnessed his murder the other day, but how come Y/N saw him this morning? Y/N wanted to believe Wednesday but seeing the boy today, made her think that Wednesday was lying.

The Poe Cup race was getting closer and Y/N was helping Enid and Yoko with decorating the boat. She wanted to be excited for the race, but she knew that Bianca was going to win again.

"Ladies, come on!" Enid said as she made her way over to the two girls. "Let's work on those teeth. More scowl. This kitty is taking no prisoners. If Bianca Barclay wins again this year, I will literally scratch my own eyes out!"

Y/N sighed before continuing to paint the red teeth on the black boat. She wanted to focus on the painting but the voice coming from behind her made her stop what she was doing.

"Wow, you could be a real artist."

Y/N turned around only to see a particular brunette boy standing behind her, observing her painting. "Thank you, but I still think it needs a little bit of work. I'm not exactly really proud of it."

"Well you can always come to my room, so I can, you know, teach you how to paint," Xavier said before crouching next to her.

"Maybe I'll stop by, so you could, you know, teach me how to paint." Y/N smiled at the boy.

"Y/N. Come on! Less talking, more painting." Enid demanded. "The Poe Cup droops for no one."

"Well, I guess I should get back to work."

"Yeah, I won't bother you anymore," Xavier said as he stood up. "Good luck with the race."

"Good luck to you as well, I already know my team is going to win." Y/N joked, making the boy smile.

"Competitive  now, are we?"

"Always."

Y/N made her way into the class, taking her seat next to Xavier who was drawing a spider in his sketchbook. She focused on the sketch as he extended his hand, making the spider become alive.

The H/C girl stayed quiet as she looked at the spider crawling closer to her. This was the first time she saw one of his drawings become real.

"Admit it, you're a little impressed." Xavier piped up.

"I am actually," Y/N said as she focused on the spider. "This is amazing."

The spider disappeared as someone hit it with his hand. Y/N looked up to see who it was, only to be met with dark eyes. "I need to talk with you after the class," Wednesday said making the girl widen her eyes.

"Okay," Y/N said before looking over at Xavier who closed his notebook in disappointment.

"Wednesday, we're thrilled to have you join us on our journey into the world of carnivorous plants." Ms. Thornhill piped up as she made her way over to the center of the class. "Now...please take your seat."

Wednesday did as she was told, taking a seat behind Y/N.

"Who can tell us the name of this beauty?" Ms. Thornhill asked, pointing at the flower that was placed on her desk.

Both Bianca and Y/N raised their hand, but before the teacher could pick one of the girls Wednesday piped up. "Dendrophylax lindenii."

"Otherwise known as the ghost orchid," Bianca added as she lowered her hand.

"First discovered on the Isle of Wight in 1854." The dark-haired girl said.

"Very good, Wednesday." The teacher complimented her. "You may have a competition for first chair Bianca. Wednesday, perhaps you can identify the ghost orchid's greatest qualities."

"Resilience and adaptability," Wednesday answered. "It's able to thrive in even the most hostile environments."

"But its mere presence can change the ecosystem, causing the established plants to reject it," Bianca explained.

"Usually because the native species is allowed to thrive unchecked," Wednesday added. "Nothing a Weedwacker couldn't fix."

"You can most certainly try." The blue-eyed siren said, looking at Wednesday.

"Are we still talking about flowers?" Xavier piped up, asking the question everyone was wondering about.

"Thank you ladies, for those illuminating insights." Ms. Thornhill said, breaking the tension between the two girls. "Clearly the plants aren't the only carnivores in class today."

The class went on normally. Bianca and Wednesday calmed down as they decided to let Y/N answer the rest of the questions. Being a witch, Y/N knew about all sorts of plants.

The bell rang, signaling that it was the end of the class. Before Y/N could walk out, Wednesday stopped in front of her. They waited until everyone got out so that they could finally talk.

"Weems has been watching me like a vulture circling a carcass, I need to get back to the woods."

"And you need me to cover for you?" Y/N asked.

"I have beekeeping club this afternoon," Wednesday said. "I need you as a decoy."

"What's in it for me?" Y/N crossed her arms as she looked at the girl in front of her.

"I'll do anything you ask for," Wednesday answered quickly.

Y/N raised her eyebrow, pretending to think about what to say. "You'll need to apologize to Thing first, he's mad at you."

"Why's he mad?" Wednesday said. "He's the one who screwed up."

"He opened up to me this morning. He feels like you don't respect him as a person." Y/N explained.

"Technically, he's only a hand."

"Go apologize to him, and I'll be your decoy."

---

"If Weems comes sniffing around, keep your distance, look grim, and don't say a word," Wednesday said, looking at Y/N who began to put on a white mask for protection.

"Got it," Y/N nodded.

Wednesday turned around to whisper something to Eugene who was going to keep Y/N company until Wednesday returned from her trip to the woods. The pale girl looked at Y/N and then at Eugene before walking out of the shed, leaving the E/C girl alone with her company.

"In ancient times, honey was used to treat wounds and in sacrificial burial rites," Eugene explained as he took a step closer to Y/N. "Cleopatra was rumored to bathe in honey. Gave her skin a luminous glow. Have you ever taken a honey bath?"

"No, no I haven't," Y/N answered quickly. "I just don't want to get stung."

"The key is to remain calm," Eugene said. "Bees detect fear, but you don't need to worry. Because I have a very big smoker, and I handle it like a pro. Would you like to see it?"

This was going to be a long night. Y/N thought to herself.
