My story begins around the start of World War 3, not extravagant I didn't go off to war and become a hero. I was like most Americans, stuck in a daily grind just trying to survive life one day at a time and paycheck to paycheck. Going to work paying the bills and feeding the family. The news always going on about war breaking out overseas became almost irrelevant as it didn't really affect anything here. Well, nothing good Cost of living going up the quality of life going down. Stress is around every corner.

Home life was rough, we tried our hardest to make ends meet. Keep the Kids fed, and do not end up on the street like so many were ending up. Arguments between my wife and I would become frequent mostly because of the world situation. One night we fought and instead of making things worse, I decided to leave to de-escalate the situation. I didn't want to repeat what I grew up with. I got in my car that I could barely afford to put gas in and take a cool-down cruise.

Thinking about the argument, the kids, and my dead-end job. It is almost too much for one man to handle. I turn a corner a little harder than I should have to have a little fun and then Bam! A bright flash of light.

Spaceships, I know it's hard to believe but hear me out, they came right before IT happened. The day that the war was no longer just on the news. In fact, that was one of the things congesting the radio right before it happened with the blinding light. Everyone at the station freaked out about an incoming attack but I was so blinded by emotions that the information didn't click. Where am I, what is going on, why are we not where we were? Strange beings in uniforms, some human others clearly not.

The shock was almost a blur, as we were shuffled from the pad to the lines. The ones wearing blue and black were inspecting us with handheld devices. There were ones standing at what seemed to be doors they were wearing a pale yellow and black uniform. It became clear the longer I stood there that I wasn't on Earth anymore, was I dead, am I dreaming? My turn came and the person I was asked to a human, I think seemed to have pointed ears.

She said " Welcome aboard the U.S.S. Iowa. I am Lt. T'nea we are part of a group called Central Command. We are evacuating you from the immediate blast zone."

I replied, "Iowa? That is an old battleship, blast zone what do you mean where is my family?"

Lt T'nea " I do not have that information at this time, after I scan you with my medical device you can proceed to the next area to enter your information and begin to connect with any family or friends that we were able to extract."

She waved a little box in her hand in front of me it looked like it had a small screen like a cell phone and a bunch of blinking lights kind of like Ziggy from that time travel show. I was quickly moved on to the next area, we went through another set of doors with more people guarding it into a similar room, It did feel like we were on a ship, but I could definitely tell it was not on the water it was too steady for that. I tried to remain calm as I did see other people lose control and were dealt with accordingly. The next line took the longest.

Each person had to be checked into the computer system they had. Although it did seem they had all hands on deck, they had also rescued a great number of people which also proved that this ship was much larger than the one that I knew bared the name. People in front of me, behind me, and to my sides were all in shock and confusion just as I was. The high was wearing off of me, aside from the immense worry about the whereabouts of my family I was getting more comfortable. My turn finally came again. This time humanoid male blue skin tone and two antennae on his forehead.

He spoke "Name, date of birth, location of residence."

I replied, " What kind of reception do those get?"

He smirked and said, " Glad to see some of you are recovering from the shock."

With his tone, I could tell my joke only slightly amused him, so I gave him the information he requested and followed with a brief apology. I also inquired about my family, he responded that he wouldn't have the information until everyone was checked in and relocated to the refugee center. He also asked me to be patient in this stressful time and wished me luck.
