"Hello everyone!" Her cheerful eyes and sweet voice seemed to engage everyone in the classroom. Her white teeth shined and her hands waved, showing her gorgeous nails.

"Gwen?"
"Hm? O-oh. I'm over here." The staff next to the girl looked at me.

Closing my book, I walked over to them.
"Yes?"
"Gwen, this is Maury. Could you give her a tour of the school please? I think she is also in your next two classes." I was nervous, as a qualm feeling tried to overwhelm me, but I managed to stay calm, and prevent a panic attack.

I nodded and led Maury out of the classroom, shutting the door behind me.

"So....Gwen is your name?" She started. I'm glad she broke the ice.
"Yeah. And isn't yours Maury?"
"Yep! I was named after my grandmother, who was named after my great grandmother." She started to talk about her grandmother, and great grandmother, more and more, until we arrived at the gym.

"Woah. This gym is much larger than my old one!" She seemed surprised
"Really? Man your gym must have been small. This is the biggest room we've got in our school."
She walked into the gym, hearing the taps of her feet.
"Man, you guys keep this place clean!" She started at a walking pace, then lifted off.

"H-hey! Wait!" I sprinted after her, running out of breath. Maury traveled up the stairs, skipping every other step.
"Woo hoo! Echo!" Her voice echoes throughout the gym. Echo, echo!

Running out if breath, she was panting and gasping for air, plopping down on a gym mat to take a break. I finally caught up with her and found myself sitting next to Maury, sweaty and gross.

"Well...what a great way to tour the gym." I said. She laughed, and I swear she made me have hope in humanity for an instant.

After our break we continued the tour through all of the Junior classes, and the cafeteria. The bell had rang and we went to our third hour and fourth hour blocks after lunch. I guess I was lucky enough to have her in my last two classes; Art, and Home economics.

Maury then invited me to walk home with her, and I took the chance. Why did I do that. Now, it was fun, definitely, but I'm surprised my anxiety didn't act up. That's good. I think its best for her to not know, because the last thing I need is another friend to think I'm a freak.

But why am I so calm towards her?

Then I realized:

I didn't know that this was what I needed.

She was what I needed.

And soon, I'd find out.
