For the first time in what felt like years, you were having a peaceful afternoon in one of the many libraries at Ouran. It was actually quiet with little to no other students around. You and Haruhi had taken this valuable opportunity to study, or well, Haruhi did. You were content trying to balance a pencil on the bridge of your nose. Your books and papers laid strewn about in front of you unattended. Haruhi worked diligently while you continued with your pencil balancing.
"It's always nice to see you prioritizing your free time to study." Haruhi sighed.
"You clearly do not understand the importance of this. The fate of the world hangs in the balance of this pencil." You replied.
"What are you? A child?" Haruhi huffed, "What're you gonna do if there's a pop quiz tomorrow?"
"I will cry sorrowfully and wonder where everything went wrong in my life." You answered, "It's not like we don't study plenty enough when we get home, Haru. I'm just taking a little break is all."
"Hm, let's see," Haruhi looked to her wrist at a nonexistent watch, "I'm sure this break has lasted, what? 30 minutes? Quite impressive you've stayed entertained over a pencil for that long."
A kick to your leg from underneath the table made you jolt. The pencil fell from your nose and down into your lap.
"Haruhi Fujioka! That was mean! How could you?"
"I haven't a clue what you're talking about, (___)." She responded.
Her eyes never left the packet she was working on, but you hear the smile in her voice. You huffed.
"I've already done all the problems I know how to do. Can't I have a little fun?"
"You can ask for help, you know."
"But when you study you get such a bad case of tunnel vision. You don't even hear the bell half the time!"
"Yes, that's true, but if you need help I'm here. Why haven't you tried getting my attention?"
"I have tried! Oh, you know what, next time I'll just push you out of the chair. That'll get you to look away from your work."
"That is not necessary," She firmly stated, "You have my attention now, so what're the problems you're having trouble with?"
You raised a brow, skeptical if she was telling the truth. Not once did she look up at you. You sat up straight in your chair and gathered your papers. You straightened them out before clearing your throat obnoxiously loud.
"Which of the following substances is least soluble in water? (Are these written wrong? Yes. All numbers are supposed to be below the elements but I couldn't get it to paste correctly.)
A) (NH4)2SO4
B) KMnO4
C) BaCO3
D) Zn(NO3)2
E) Na3PO4"
Her pencil stopped moving along the lines on her paper. She tore a piece of scrap paper off of a different page and wrote the formulas out. She muttered to herself, a habit that she has yet to break, before looking up at you.
"The answer is C. Compared to the other formulas given, C includes Barium which is especially insoluble when paired with Group 2 atoms."
You plucked your pencil from your lap and circled C on your packet.
