I didn't think I'd found another titan until arven called me, letting me know I was in the territory of the 'lurking steel titan'.

"Oooohhhh, that explains why the ground keeps shaking." I nod, watching arven's face morph into an expression of shock. "What?! That means it's nearby, be careful, I don't want you getting hurt trying to chase down a titan!" He yelped.

The ground beneath my feet shook once more, and I grew excited knowing the titan was close. "Sorry, can't hear ya over the ground shaking!" I smiled, running off with charmeleon.

"Wait! I'll be there soon- y/n?!"

———

Beating the big worm wasn't too hard, charmeleon boasted a huge type advantage. That type advantage definitely showed as the worm fled, starting to eat it's herb.

I heard panting, seeing arven somehow running with that backpack of his.

Rip his shoulders, mine probably woulda broken.

"Im... here... where... titan?" He pants, seeming to have sprinted the whole way. I casually nod towards the oversized worm that had finished eating, now looming and ready to battle again.

"Here." I smiled, as charmeleon lunged with flaming fangs.

"This victory is gonna taste so good seasoned by my toadscool!" Arven grinned, releasing a little mushroom thing. It was kinda cute, in a weird way.

At least until the orthworm obliterated it.

Arven returned his fainted pokémon, just in time to see charmeleon land a crit flamethrower. I grinned, hyped from battle.

Not noticing the boy's blush.

When the worm finally fainted, I grabbed Arven's hand, booking it into the cave. "Look, that's it right?" I crouch by a glowing plant.

"Yep, with this I can make up another sandwich. Sit tight, you two." He said. I plopped down, watching as he began the task of making food. Charmeleon watched with equal curiosity, as he flitted about with supplies.

"Aaaannnd, done!" Arven stood proudly, admiring the sandwiches on the platter. "Neat, last sandwich I made fell apart." I laughed at the memory.

"How... fall apart?!" Arven looked shocked. "Yeah, bacon and sushi don't stack well." I shrug.

Arven looked mortified.

He rummaged through his bag, before pulling out a paper and scribbling something on it and handing to to me. It was sandwich recipes.

"I don't want you making an atrocity like that again, try one of these next time." He said. I nod. "Thanks."

I saw arven break part of his sandwich off, drawing my attention from charmeleon choking down it's portion. "Whatcha doing chef?" I asked.

He paused.

"I suppose it's time I come clean, huh." He pulled out a pokéball. Out came a dog pokémon I hadn't seen before, looking lethargic.

"Im trying to get my buddy mabosstiff to feel better again, he's the only company I really had.. even growing up." He kneeled by the Pokémon, offering it a piece of sandwich.

"There you go, bud. Nice and slow, that's it." He cooed to mabosstiff. My eyes stung, and my silence drew arven's azure eyes to me.

I blinked, trying to keep the tears that had built up in my eyes at bay. What arven just said... was the saddest thing I'd heard.

"You alright there little buddy?" He asked, and I silently walked over before crouching to his level. He looked confused, before I snatched him into a hug.

"Im so sorry.." I choked out, arven tensed for a moment, before squeezing me in a firm hug. "Hey there, don't apologize, you did nothing wrong." He replied, though I could hear the buried hurt in his voice.

Eventually I released him, wiping at my eyes. "Arven." I started, catching his attention immediately. "If you ever want, call me. Doesn't matter the hour, just do it, okay?" I asked, looking into his eyes.

He seemed surprised.

"Even if I'm in a battle, I'll do my best to answer." I promised. After a moment of silence, he seemed to fight back his own misty eyes.

"Alright then, little buddy. I'll hold you to that."
