"I'm going to strangle him one day, I swear to god," I groan.
"Oh come on it couldn't have been that bad," Danika laughs. I look across the coffee shop booth to see her giggling as she takes a sip of her drink. The small cafe only a a few minute walk away from our apartment is nearly empty and I don't have to worry about anyone I know hearing me.
"You don't get it, I swear Gavin makes it his goal to make my life harder." I continue. Ive been awake since four thirty this morning and my skin is dry from the cold. Nothing is going my way today and just the short interaction with my high school nemesis only worsened my mood.
Gavin Lodges, or more popularly known as "Logs" across campus is our hockey teams star defensemen. I just so happened to go to high school and elementary school with him as well.
"He has hockey and his puck bunnies to focus on, I doubt he cares that much about a girl from his highschool," she assures me. It must be the millionth time we've had this conversation. It's now our third year of university, and friendship and some how she doesn't realize how sure I am Gavin tries to ruin my life.
"We had half our classes together," I remind her, "he's here studying health science, like me".
I've been told by many people the reason we might dislike each other so much is because of how similar we are. We're both D1 college athletes. We're both trying to get jobs around sports, I want to be a Physiotherapist while he's trying to do the same. We both want to be the best in school and just everything.
Our similarities could've lead to a solid friendship or alliance at least but they've just led to us fighting and me going home everyday barely avoiding murder.
"Tell me again what happened," my friend says. I can tell she's only half listening as she pulls out one of her complex text books and begins skimming the text.
"When he showed up to class today, late as usual, he made a point to walk all the way around the hall and sit his dumb ass next to me. And that's fine! I can deal with him being that close, but he kept leaning over asking about the material he missed. Then when I wouldn't answer her make a big fuss about it and I'd miss part of the lecture." I smash my forehead onto the table again. "It got even better though. His little followers saw that he had come by me so they all had to take seats around us and I swear one of those girls was about two seconds from giving him a blowjob right there." I gag at the memory. All the puck bunnies look the same with cheap blonde highlights and mascara they haven't removed in weeks. Most played hockey in elementary and highschool but honestly sucked so they just became fan girls for the guys.
"Ria, I doubt she would've done that in the lecture hall," she shakes her head with silent laughter. "Is there any chance you're making this worse for yourself then it is? I mean I know you guys have a bumpy history and all but it could just be this thing in your brain telling you he's bad. Right?" I only give her the death stare.
Because she's decided to become a social worker she's also decided to take some phycology classes on the side to better understand her future clients, this means she uses me as a person to psycho analyze. "This could be like your 'all hockey boys are assholes' thing? How one did you wrong and now you just stereotype them into one catigory?"
"I've yet to meet a hockey boy that isn't a jerk." I tell her firmly. That could also be because I've spent a solid half of my energy avoiding them at all cost but she doesn't need to know that:
She takes the fact that I haven't argued as a win and smiles as she ties back her light brown hair. I take the momment to look at her, everything about her says future lawyer from the clean minimalist outfit and perfect skin and nails. She's exactly who you would want representing you just based off the way she carries herself.
