He came back to his underground lair and tossed a backpack into area he kept me in. It hit the ground with such a loud thud that it startled me awake from my nap, and he continued walking away into another area. Luckily, it was barely close enough for me to get a hold of to try and search for anything useful, but before I could do so I heard his loud footsteps coming closer to me, so I threw the backpack on the ground so he possibly wouldn't suspect anything.
He turned the corner into the room I was in and grabbed what looked like a ring set of keys from his waist. 'Is he actually going to let me go?' I thought to myself, I can't be that lucky now, can I?
"You remember my set rules, right?" he asked.
I nodded yes.
"I'll unchain you if you promise not break any of them, understand?" He replied.
"Yes, I understand, and I promise" I said nervously.
He then proceeds to unlock the heavy cuffs and chains that were attached to my wrists. "Thank you" I said quietly as I felt of sense of relief being lifted from me, but I remained still as I had promised not to break any of his rules.
Jason just shook his head and replied, "Thanks nothing." as he dropped the chains on the ground. The moment of silence between us was quickly interrupted by a loud growling sound coming from my stomach. It had been hours since I had eaten anything at all, my body was starting to fight back, and I was starting to feel queasy.
"I don't suppose you'd let your so called "prisoner" have something to eat at least, would you? I mean after all it is your job to keep me alive for now, right?" I asked in hopes of getting him to crack.
Apparently, my little plea worked as he motioned for me to get up with his hands "c'mon you have to come with me." He said.
I tried to stand on my own two feet but failed miserably and groaned in pain because the wounds on my legs were still fresh and very painful. He picked me up by placing one arm under my back and the other under my knees. I was genuinely surprised he was being this gentle with me as he carried me along the tunnel that led to his old home above ground. He then sat me down for a moment so that he could open the hatch and climb through, then turning around to reach down to pull me up by armpits, allowing me to rest on the floor before grabbing and old wooden kitchen chair and helping me to gradually sit up in it.
"Stay right there, don't move an inch from that chair." he pointed at me and reminded me in a firm tone of voice. I just nodded at him understanding, waiting patiently as he left the room and walked into what was currently left of the kitchen area since it was all falling apart from being neglected for so long. I could hear him rummaging through the cabinets and drawers to see whatever he could find. He eventually found an old, slightly rusted, can of beans and brought it out along with a spoon. He set it on the table next to me, pulled out his field knife from his belt and punctured the top of the can with such force it shook the table a bit, making me flinch. He pried the lid open and slid it over to me, "T-thank you." I said shakily from being frightened. I watched him sit down across from me to keep a close eye on me. I grabbed the spoon and took a small bite from the can. The whole idea of him staring at me while I ate made me feel extremely uncomfortable. "You know, you don't have to watch me like a hawk all the time? I'm physically incapable of getting very far." I reminded him.
"I don't trust you well enough to let you out of my sight just yet." He replied and crossed his arms over his chest tightly.
"Well, there's one thing you can do, that's learn to trust me." I said to him
"And how do you suppose I do that?" He replied in a snarky tone.
"Well, you did start off by removing the cuffs and chains off my wrists earlier and you could at least have the decency to ask me my name, I mean, I am a human being after all and not sort of animal you leave locked up in a cage in all day." I explained to him.
"Ok, what is it then?" He asked.
"Rachel..." I replied softly
I could see a gleam in his good eye, not exactly the look of wanting to kill me, but rather one of amusement. Maybe I could get through to him, perhaps crack that hard and thickened outer shell of his to get through to the real Jason. I know he must have a heart in there somewhere. I thought to myself. "I take it you like my name?" I asked shyly.
"It is a pretty name, much like my mother's" he replied.
"Thank you" I said softly and blushed a tiny bit. "Can I ask you something?" I added.
Jason nodded yes in response to my question.
"Do you ever take your mask off at all?" I asked. I watched the gleam in his eye slowly disappear and his head bow down after asking my question. Uh oh, maybe that was a bad question to ask right now? I thought to myself and awaited his response.
"Only my mother has seen me without it, others were by force..." He replied lowly.
"You know you don't have to hide your face around me, do you mind if I see?" I asked curiously as I tried scooting closer to him to get a better look. I got a little too cocky and tried reaching my hand up to his mask to remove it, which I soon realized was a grave mistake... He quickly grabbed my wrist and twisted it towards the ground, the tight squeezing was causing me to yelp in a bit of pain and I could see an angry look in his eye.
"I'm sorry! I was only curious! please don't hurt me!" I whimpered and cried.
He listened and began to loosen his grip on my wrist and slowed his breathing down. Realizing that he had hurt me I could almost see for the first time ever a look of guilt in his eye.
I could see the look of guilt in his eye again once he realized that he had hurt me "I didn't mean to...I'm sorry" he replied. I was shocked and surprised 'did he actually mean that?' I thought to myself as I realized asking him anything about taking off his mask would be walking on eggshells as it's evidently a very touchy subject for him. I stuck my hand back out and at least let him look at it. His hand twice as big as mine wrapped around my whole wrist and his skin was rough and calloused. My wrist wasn't broken, thank God, but it was still sore.
"Jason?" I said and he looked up at me "It's ok, I forgive you." I assured him. "It was my fault I should've never gotten so cocky and tried to take your mask off" I added, feeling guilty as well. Jason then stood up and headed towards his old kitchen area, which was straight down the hall from where were sitting. He could easily turn around and keep an eye on me if he wanted to. "What are you doing?" I asked and he stopped in his tracks, only turning his head for a moment to look at me he completely ignored my question and headed on. He opened an old deep freeze his mother used to own, somehow, he managed to keep it running till this day, he grabbed a handful of ice and wrapped in an old towel he found lying on the counter. Jason came back to the dining area where I was. He scooted his chair a little closer to mine directly across from me and grabbed a hold of my wrist again, placed the homemade ice pack on my wrist. I flinched a bit in shock from the freezing cold sensation.
"Hold still!" he said, as he held my wrist firmly and started to wrap it.
"I'm sorry, it was cold I couldn't help it...thank you" I said quietly and yawned as I was feeling rather exhausted.
He could see I was physically exhausted, "c'mon back downstairs you go." he told me. At this point I didn't care if I went back down into his lair or not, I needed and wanted a place to rest. He was being decent enough to help me back down into the room I was once in and sat me back down on the bed. He, unfortunately still had some trust issues with leaving me fully alone by myself and cuffed my good leg to the bed. At that point I just didn't care, all I wanted was to sleep.
