Kayden's POV
Amara's dad was back.
That bothered me more than it should because I had known him for such a short while but I'd heard so much about him. I was quite literally basing my judgement on stories I'd heard about a man I'd never met. That wasn't a me thing. But maybe since it came down to Amara I felt compelled to believe what I'd heard.
All I cared about though was that if all this was true, Amara was safe from his violence. After her mom got attacked I hoped that a new plan would be devised to handle the situation. But until then...I just had to protect and comfort Amara as much as I could.
As if on cue, I got a message from Amara.
Hey babe.
I smiled.
Hi beautiful. How you doing?
Good. What about you?
I'm great. Just you know... worrying about you.
I sighed.
Aww. I'm fine. Promise.
I know. Just can't help it I guess.
Aww. Love you.
My heart fluttered and I smiled.
Love you too.
I paused. Waiting for her to tell me why she texted. Nothing came so I inquired.
Anyways. What's up?
Oh. Right. Almost forgot
I shook my head. Amara and her bad memory. It was cute.
Fabio's back.
The words hit me like a cold brick.
Anger bubbled inside me as memories of him flooded my mind.
Fabio. The boy who tried to ruin my relationship with Neveah. Who almost left me broken, humiliated and forgotten.
I run my fingers through my hair.
F*ck. My thoughts rang.
If he was in town he was definitely bound to try and meet me and I wasn't ready to face him after what he did last time.
Neveah.
Her name flitted through my mind. She was probably with him and that bothered me. I'd tried to warn her before but she didn't believe me. She wouldn't. She couldn't. That was her boy best friend. In her mind, if she had to make a choice it would have been Fabio. It only made sense.
My phone buzzed again with a new message from an unknown number.
I messaged a thank you to Amara before opening the new message.
Hey. I'm back. Did you miss me? It read.
Who's this? I asked. But I didn't need to. I knew exactly who it was. However I needed to see the name for myself. I wanted it be real so I'd have an excuse to explode.
Its Fabio.
And with that I did. I threw my phone into a corner and screamed with every ounce of hate in my body.
*****
People had always told me I was a sensitive and I had refused to admit that for the sake of maintaining my male ego.
However, standing in front of my neighbour and explaining why I'd been screaming made me realize just how true that was.
"And you're sure you're okay?" Mrs Camsley asked with a concerned look.
