xavier wanted to plan a whole 'welcome back' party the day you were discharged from the hospital, but he knew you'd still need rest to recover.

the blood loss from a week prior left you with dizzy spells; he hated seeing you so weak, knowing you're in this state because of him.

as he sat in his paint shed thinking these thoughts, he smiled to himself. if you heard these internal worries of his, he thought, she'd totally say something like "xavier, i did it because it needed to be done and wednesday was out of line blah blah blah."

so, he opted to get all of his friends to sign a card. he even drew you on the front, making sure to remember to animate it when he gave it to you. the art was of one of xavier's core memories: he dared you to sneak into the greenhouse near the school, late at night. when he pushed through the foliage of the forest to see you standing next to the glass doors, he recognized the shirt you were wearing. it was a t-shirt of his that he'd let you borrow when he 'accidentally' flung paint on you during a play-fight.

the night he saw you there, fuzzy pajama pants matched with his own t-shirt, he knew his feelings had grown far beyond friendship.

he hoped this card would maybe, hopefully show you how much he cared about you.

during the card signing process, he had to fight with enid when she made the argument that, "she's my friend too so i also get to write her a long message!"

she did not win that battle. this would be xavier's card with small 'get well soon' and 'we missed you' notes from people you knew.

he really wanted you to love it.

when the fated day came that you were allowed to be discharged, he got some flowers and made sure the card was looking the best it could. some of the words in the card may have eluded to some of xavier's non-friendship feelings; his nerves were going haywire.

saying goodbye to the doctor, you headed out to the lobby. god, you were thankful you no longer had to wear that hospital gown. if xavier saw you in that ugly ass thing one more time, you might as well just dig your dignity a grave and let wednesday enjoy the funeral.

the hyde had left large gashes from your shoulder down to your elbow. much blood had stained xavier's uniform that night; something you'd already apologized countless times for.

the transition from the glaringly white hallway to the lobby illuminated with warm light was a welcoming change. and there was xavier, a smile decorating his face when he saw you. he had a small boquet of a wild flowers that grew near his shed, tied together with a pale purple ribbon. even if the gesture was small, it made you want to run up to him and squeeze him tight out of pure impulse.

"did you really hand pick these?" you questioned, trying to tease him a little. he didn't notice as he pridefully stated, "of course, my hands even had that weird sticky plant blood on them when i visited you. remember?"

you snorted, "why didn't you wash it off?"

he looked to the wall, "i didn't notice until i was already at the lobby." you couldn't tell if this embarrassed him or not.

"hey, come with me, (y/n). i want to give you something, but not here."

xavier grabbed your hand, leading you with great care. the caution he used was adorable.

the small trek to a bench at a nearby park was a little straining for you; something xavier didn't fail to take note of. he made sure to ask how you were doing and offered his shoulder if you needed something to lean on.
