I promise to Protect You

Frey ran out of the Bell Hotel and to Dragon Lake where she found Leon standing there staring at the water. Lost in thought but upon hearing her footsteps he turned his attention to her and said, "Oh Frey. Is something wrong?"

"Leon...Umm...,"A small pause as Frey didn't exactly know how to express herself, damnit why was it so hard to come up with a solution.

"I see. Did we have plans? Did I promise to do something with you?" Leon questioned.

"No it's not that, it's about Maria's book," Frey stated.

"Let's not talk about her anymore," Leon stated.

"But..." Frey started when suddenly Leon snapped at her, "Shut up! Forget it!"

This startled Fret as he never sounded so harsh before.

"Sorry didn't mean to sound so harsh. But just forget about this whole thing. I'll live with the burden that's all," Leon stated sadly.

Frey looked down sadly for a moment till she remembered her long conversation with Xiao Pai. And how she wanted Leon to smile. Finally she walked up to Leon and hugged him. The very thing that she could do that nobody else could. This caught Leon off guard as he wasn't expecting a hug after being so harsh to her. But he returned the embrace and hugged her as tight as he could.

Frey then went on into the conversation she had with Xiao Pai on how she could possibly help Leon through whatever through he needed help with. He looked at her surprised as she had come up with this hug being the way to help him.

Frey then went on to say how this was the right answer for as it was something only she could do. As this was something only the living could do. And once again she expressed how much she loved Leon. That she just wanted him to happy no matter what and yes she did get jealous but she never would want him to forget Maria as she was someone who loved him too. Yet she would do what she always do which is keep loving Leon.

Suddenly their loving moment was interrupted by Kiel who came running toward the lake and the two scrambled to break apart. Kiel then explained how he solved the mystery of Maria's book. Explaining how he kept thinking the symbols on the bottom of the pages must mean something. And how they found each of the pages by numbered stumps. Leading to the conclusion the symbols were page numbers. And so what the page which they assumed what what was page 1 was actually page 2.

Kiel soon left them to tell Arthur of the update.

This realization filled Leon with such renewed hope. Maria's story was not over yet. But it wouldn't change the conclusion. He and Frey then discussed about what would happen if he found the last page and if Maria would finally be saved. Frey thought for a moment before she finally told Leon she did not know for she was not Maria. But that she would want to be remembered by all those who loved her and that would make her happy.

"Come on let's go," Leon stated.

Frey hmmed at his odd suggestion and Leon continued, "I actually have an idea where the first page might be buried. If we follow the logic of the other pages, page 1 should be buried near one single marker."

"One stump huh? But there are so many places that have...," Frey started and Leon continued, "It doesn't have to be a stump."

Frey looked puzzled.

"I've been wracking my brain. Trying to figure out why she would've scattered the pages in such a cryptic way. Was it for herself, to preserve our memories, or was it for me, to remind me of them? And I believe the answer is that she wanted to remind me of our time together. Otherwise, why go through all that trouble?" Leon stated.
