A loud snap breaks the beautiful tone of the cello as Wednesday Addams throws her bow down. She examines the broken string, cursing herself for breaking another one. It was the second one within a week, the second one of her entire life. She had never, never broken a string. And if that wasn't angering enough, she was still tainted with some curse that she couldn't get rid of.
It was infuriating. She slept, took medicine, and even mediated and yet no matter what she did, she couldn't exterminate the sickness that had been plaguing her since the Poe Cup. She inhales the cool night air, her cello standing in between her legs, the bow lays untouched within the case. Thing perches on the edge of the music stand, playing with the corner of the sheet music. "I don't understand, Thing. I never get sick. I've tried every remedy in the book. I even looked in the Nightshade library to no avail." She glares up at the moon, her mind writhing as it tries to find a solution."Heyyyy Wends, how do I look?" Wednesday turns around at the perky voice of her roommate. She's wearing a plaid skirt over pink stockings and a pink sweater with a hot magenta vest over it. To top it all off, a pink beret sits on the crown of her head. "Is this too much?" Enid holds up a shirt that looked like it had been splashed with various shade of neon pink and orange. "I feel like you just napalmed me, Enid." And yet as the words come out, she can't help but ignore the heat the climbs to her face. There is it again, the sickness. It's coming back. "You're right." The window creaks open as she throws the shirt back into the room. "So glad I have my date with Ajax tonight. Get my mind off that trainwreck of an afternoon. I literally think I have PTSD. I didn't even get to do my dance routine." The werewolf's hands shake up and down as she talks, the words coming out frantic and anxious. "What a tragedy." Wednesday turns back towards the moon, her fingers coming up to lightly touch one of the cello's strings.
"What kind of twisted psycho would want to sabotage such a life-affirming event?" Wednesday's eyes slip down to Thing who just turns away, suddenly very interested in the music stand's chipped paint.
"You're going to be late." Enid gasps, grabs her jacket, and makes her way to the window. "If he breaks your heart... I'll nailgun his." She's not sure why she said that. It's not like she cares about her insipid roommate anyways. "Aww, thanks, that was sweet. Anyways, I gotta go. Love ya Wends." The window creaks shut, leaving a stunned Wednesday and an amused Thing.
After a moment of complete silence, save for the thundering of her heartbeat, Wednesday sighs and shrugs, her head falling into her hands. "Ugh. This illness continues to torment me and I cannot seem to get rid of it." She looks back up at the moon, her mind going through the possible curses she might be afflicted with.
"Dilated pupils, increased heart rate, flushed face... none of those things are symptoms of any curse or sickness that I know of. Perhaps Mother would know." And she seriously considers going inside to send a message on the crystal ball. Two taps on the music stands brings her attention to Thing. He quickly signs, the stand shaking as he does. "Yes, I saw Enid exactly 2 minutes and 37 seconds ago, what's so significant abou-" She cuts herself off knowing exactly where Thing is going with this. She quickly tries to deny it.
"No. That cannot be it. I am Wednesday Addams. I don't have emotions. Emotions are weak. I am not going to start having feelings. I am not going to become weak like my parents. And I am certainly not in love with Enid Sinclair." Her mouth pops shut and Thing just wiggles his fingers smugly. "I'm not... I can't be." And even as the rejection leaves her lips, she knows it's not true.
Yes, she remembers. The sickness had started during the Poe Cup, when Enid had said, "I just thought of WWWD. What Would Wednesday Do?" The statement had caused her heart to speed and her cheeks to flush. Thank god everyone was so focused on the race that no one had noticed. It had fluctuated again after the race when Enid had found her sitting on the statue, hiding away from the gazes and cheers of the Nevermore students. And instead of leaving her to be or looking at her strangely, Enid had linked their arms together and led her to the quad. It was as if her death glare or her dark remarks didn't phase the blonde at all. If anything, it seemed to attract the girl. Wednesday's harsh exterior wasn't working anymore and if anything it was making everything worse.
She also realized everytime that anger spiked through her emotionless mask was whenever Enid brought up Ajax. "I hope we outreach together!" or "Ajax is sooo cute." or "I hope he notices me." Because everytime Enid had said something like that, Wednesday's mind had supplies different statements. "I hope we outreach together, Wends!" or maybe "She's cute when she smiles." or "Does she notice me like I notice her?" Her mind would just spit random things out in an attempt to tame its broken state.
"Fine. Maybe I do." She sighs heavily. How was she going to deal with this? Thing drops to the ground, crawling his way to the dorm room and Wendesday quickly turns on him. "Tell anyone of this and you'll be crawling on three fingers. Got it?" The limb gestures nervously and Wednsday just nods, allowing him to continue with his business because clearly she wouldn't be playing any music tonight. And so she just stares up at the moon, thinking of the bright blonde girl that had come to completely devour her thoughts every waking moment.
She's not sure how long she stayed up there, but it was long enough for the cold wind to bite through her thick oversized jacket. Her thing shirt did nothing to protect her skin from the harsh breeze. She inhales as she stands, moving to lean against the railing.
Her braids hang over the stone as her gaze captures the campus.
Perhaps Mother was right. Maybe she would like it here. Tonight is definitely a night she won't forget with all of this information being uncovered. First she discovers her feelings for Enid Sinclair, and now she's seriously debating her fondness for the school. Next thing she knows, she'll be having tea with Weems. Although with the way the night's going, she better not jinx it.
A lodu shriek breaks through the tranquil silence and it's quickly followed by the foul sound of metal scratching against metal. She'd know that voice anywhere, Enid.
And so she quickly packs up her cello before climbing into her room. She settles on her bed, a random book opened to a random page just as the door slams open. Her roommate, the person of her thoughts, rushes into the room, sobbing. It takes everything within her power to stay still, all of her focus goes into carefully turning the page without ripping it.
Through her peripheral vision she sees the blonde curl up into a tight ball upon her bed, the beret tumbling to the floor. Wednesday bites her tongue to hold in the questions and inquiries, trading it for her roommate's comfort. Slowly, she closes the book, placing it on her desk before standing up and softly padding over to the tape that marks the halfway line of their room. So far, she had never crossed it before.
She stares at the black tape for a moment until a loud sob breaks through the silence and then she's over it. It was like a new world had met her. Instead of the dark gloomy atmosphere of Wednesday's side, Enid's was bright and cheerful, nothing like the mood of the owner.
Wary of scaring her, Wednesday moves quietly and steadily until her foot touches the fallen beret. She bends down to pick it up before brushing it off and holding it out.
"Here. You dropped it." It takes a moment for Enid to register that Wednesday had talked to her but when she did, she looks up and Wednesday's stone heart cracks a little at the sight. Her eyes are puffy and red, snot and tears alike trailed down her cheeks and her lips were drawn down into a sad pout. "Th-thanks." She hiccups mid-sentence and Wednesday can't help but think of how cute she looks right now, despite the current situation.
Enid throws the hat into her hamper just as Wednesday sits on the soft bed.
"Shall I prepare my nail-gun?" The silence that comes is enough of an answer. So she stands up only to be pulled back by Enid. The two tumble down onto the bed, Enid falling on top of Wednesday. And when they open their eyes, they stare at each other. A puffy gaze of panic and wonder clashes with one of desire and anxiety. They're so close that each breath they take can be felt on soft skin.
Wednesday's eyes flit down to the blonde's lips. It would be so easy. They're already so close, all she would have to do is lean up a bit. But when Enid does actually lean in, the pig-tailed girl hurriedly pushes her off.
"Stop. This isn't right. You aren't in your right mind." "What do you mean? I'm thinking perfectly straight right now... well I guess not straight since I want to kiss you." A giggle follows the bad joke. Where did this come from? Enid was literally just crying, why is she all happy and open now. Either way, Wednesday still cannot in good faith make a move without feeling as if she were taking advantage of the werewolf.
"Enid, what happened with Ajax." And the mood is soured. Instantly, her smile turns into a frown and the bubbliness that had just been there quickly vanishes. "He didn't show up. I waited a while and he just... didn't come. I guess I wasn't that important." She looks down, her fingers tangling together nervously.
"Well then. It's his loss. So am I to assume that you don't have a date for the Rave'N?" Enid's head snaps up, immediately catching where her roommate is going. "Yes. I guess I am free." A small smirk appears on Wednesday's face, her lip curling up and her eyebrows raising.
"Okay. Go with me. And if you still want to kiss me by the end of the night, I'll allow it." "Deal."The weekend came quicker than expected with students chattering loudly and going dress shopping. Enid had ignored all of Ajax's interactions with her which wasn't saying much because he basically avoided the whole week. It also turns out that he had asked someone else out already.
And as the night grew, students entering the dance wearing fancy white clothing, hand in hand with their dates, Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair walked in, their hands tightly clasped together.
Yoko was the first to notice. She had whistled at the couple. "It took you guys long enough. I've been waiting for this moment. Yo, Davina. Pay up." The vampire holds up her hand but the siren just shakes her head. "I don't have money on me. You'll get it later."
Xavier and Bianca were next, the siren coming over to hug Enid. "Glad to see you out in the open." Xavier just stares at Wednesday. "I thought you dumping me for the normie. I'm glad it's her and not Tyler."
Many people came up to condgradulte the two but eventually the DJ called everyone on the dance floor and the pair were dead in the center. They danced and danced feeling freer than ever.
And as the night slowed, so did the songs as Wednesday and Enid stood flush against each other, swaying with the song.
"You know, I originally thought I was sick. Because everytime I saw you, my heart would pound, and I would get hot." Enid giggles at the confession, surprised that Wednesday would be so vulnerable. "I was really only using Ajax to make you jealous, if you must know. I did kidn of hurt when he stood me up, though." "Hmm, I still have to get my gun ready, then." "No, you really don't have to do that." When all she gets is silence, Enid keeps rambling on. "Like actually though, I'm fine. I'm not that hurt. I was really only exaggerating, you don't need to do anything to hi-" she abruptly stops when she feels soft lips on hers. Her eyes instinctively close as they meet in the middle.
"I won't hurt him. Just shut up." It earns a cheeky giggle from Enid as the blonde pulls away, much to the annoyance of Wednesday. "What, you want me to shut up and kiss you?" "Precisely." The girl clad in black grabs the fluff on Enid's dress, pulling her in for another kiss.
And in the flashing lights of the party, thye don't notice Yoko snapping millions of pictures of them for future teasing. She was not going to let Wednesday live this down.
