Evince: to reveal the presence of (a quality or feeling); to reveal.
"What's an Evince?" I asked.
"It's a new fragrance that is gaining traction," Paul explained. "and they want you for the ads!"
"Paul--"
"Good money," Paul presses. "Good money!"
"But--"
"Calida is your opposite."
I stood in shock, much like I am now watching Mimi look over the contract on a computer screen.
She exhales, pushing her glasses up. "It's impressive."
I didn't like that kind of reply from Mimi. It means she is trying to not say something, like she is hiding something. "It's alot of money, Mimi, alot."
"But it's in New York."
"Yeah, my parole officer is working on that," I shrug. "It seems that all I have to do is wear a damn tracer, but for the money?" I watch her. "What's wrong?"
"And Calida Ortiz is on this?" she asks, not looking at me, but at the offer on the computer screen.
I sigh. Calida and I were pretty hot and heavy at one time. I was into her. She was beautiful, smart, worked against animal cruelty. And damned if she wasn't a freak! Ah, she loved love, being passionate and in the moment, the perfect muse for any artist, really. Every time we got in each other's space, sparks flew, which is why Paul suggested her.
"She's an old friend of Paul's--"
"And yours." It was a statement.
I force a small laugh. "That was a long time ago."
"Not really."
"Come on, you don't think--"
"I didn't say anything."
I blink. Her whole mood was changing. "You don't think she'd be interested in me, do you?" I laugh. "Come on, I'm an ex-con--"
"Oh, so that means I was a second or third choice?"
