Chapter 1:
*Ellington's Point Of View*
"Hey, we're going with mom and dad on a short vacation. Rocky said he didn't want to go. You staying here with him or are you coming with us?" Riker said as he rolled his suitcase down the stairs.
I tapped my foot against the floor rhythmically as I thought about it. I looked over at Rocky, who was sitting on the couch playing video games, then to Riker, Ross, and Rydel who were standing in front of me. I looked at Rocky one last time and made my decision.
"I'll stay with Rocky. He might want some company." I said and Riker nodded.
"Alright. Well, we should be back in a week or two. Ryland is going to come and pick us up to take us to the airport." Rydel said and I nodded.
"Oh, and are you sure you don't want to go?" Ross said.
"I'm sure. Go on and have fun." I said with a small laugh and playfully shoved them toward the door.
"Alright, bye." They said before walking out the door.
I slowly made my way to the couch and sat next to Rocky.
"You haven't said a word all day." I stayed and poked his arm.
"I'm not in the mood." Rocky snapped and pushed my hand aside.
"It's three in the afternoon and the first words you say are 'I'm not in the mood'? Gee, what's your problem?" I said and got up to leave the room.
"My girlfriend broke up with me." He said, not even turning his head, or moving at all really.
"Why did she break up with you? I thought you two were madly in love." I said and sat next to him.
"Turns out, the feeling wasn't mutual. I was in love with her. But, apparently she was just in for the fame." He said and crossed his arms.
"I knew it. I knew something was going on with her." I whispered to myself, quiet enough so Rocky wouldn't hear.
"I mean, seriously! I guess.. I mean, I don't know. I thought she loved me." He said and I sighed.
"Well, how do you know that it was the fame?" I questioned.
He turned his head to look at me for the first time today.
"She broke up with me because some douchebag that's 'more famous' asked her out, and she couldn't turn him down." He stated and looked away. "She was like 'Luke Hemmings asked me out and he's more famous than you.' Somehow, I can't even stand her now." He added.
I chuckled.
"It's a good thing that you can't stand her anymore, because she's just a bitch." I said and a small smile formed on his mouth. "And that's putting it nicely." I added. His smile eventually grew, and he even let out a small laugh.
"I guess you're right, Ell." He said and I smiled. "Hey, you hungry?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'll just order us some pizza." I said and he shook his head.
"Nah. I'll go get us something. You just stay here." He said and got up and got his keys. Only moments later, he was out the door and on the way to get us some food.
I looked at the clock and noticed it had been quite a while.. Fifteen minutes to be exact. I assumed that the line was just long, wherever he had went to get us some food.
Soon, fifteen minutes turned into thirty minutes, thirty minutes turned into forty-five minutes, forty-five minutes turned into an hour. I was extremely worried. Soon, I saw blue and red flashing lights out the window, and I heard a knock on the door.
I was afraid to open it, but I did.. And there stood a policeman.
"Are you related to Rocky Lynch?" The policeman questioned.
"No, his relatives aren't here, but I'm a close friend of his." I answered worriedly.
"Exactly how close?" The man questioned.
"Very close." Was all I could say.
"I'm sorry to inform you, sir, but Rocky was hit by a drunk driver, and he might not make it." The man said.
I stood frozen for a few moments before he took me to the hospital to see Rocky.
When we arrived and I walked into the room Rocky was in, I saw all the needles, ivs and tubes. I looked at his face and saw how lifeless he looked. He didn't even look like himself. I knelt down beside him and ran my hands through his hair a little.
That was when I noticed that I am absolutely in love with him. I've been deeply and madly in love with him this whole time, but I just now realized it.
I grabbed his hand and rubbed it with my thumb a little bit, tears were streaming down my face.
"I don't know if you can hear me, Rocky. But, I still just want to say this," I began, sniffling a bit as tears rolled down my cheeks. "I love you.. So much, and.. And maybe I always have. I can't explain to you how I feel when I'm around you.. You make me smile when I'm down, you make me laugh when I cry, you're always there for me, and no matter what, you always make me happy, and I always get this bubbly feeling every time you're around." I said and wiped away a few tears.
Still, Rocky just lied there, as still as can be, and lifeless. I could hear the monitors beeping a little bit, and through a glance, I watched the medicine slowly drip through the iv.
I kept rubbing his hand gently with my thumb, and kissed his cheek. I looked toward the door and saw that a doctor was now standing there, watching. I let go of Rocky's hand and stood up.
"Will he... Will he live?" I asked the doctor and she sighed.
"Let's take a walk." She said calmly and motioned for me to go with her.
I looked over at Rocky and sighed.
"It will be okay for you to leave him for a few moments. I have another doctor about to come in and watch over him." The doctor said and I slowly nodded, then followed her out of the room.
"I'm assuming that you are his.. boyfriend, correct?" She asked and put her hands in the pockets of her white doctors coat, then looked over at me.
I thought about it for a moment, then nodded my head slightly. "Something like that, I guess." I said quietly.
"Ah, it's complicated, I see." She said and I nodded. She then sat on a window pane in the empty hallway, and I sat next to her.
"Now, you know that Rocky was in a terrible car crash." She began.
"That's why I'm here." I said, trying not to cry.
"Well, he was hit by a stock truck, the driver was intoxicated." She continued. "The truck crashed into the driver side, and they both flipped a few times." She said and looked over at me.
I bit my lip and pulled my knees to my chest, wrapping my arms around my legs.
"The chance of him making it is very slim." She said and put her hand on my back sympathetically.
"How slim?" I questioned.
"The chances of him surviving is about fifteen percent."
That's when I really lost it. I started crying so hard, I was sobbing and shaking, and I wanted to scream.
"We're doing what we can." She assured. "If you want to stay with him for a while, you can." She got up and gave me a sympathetic look.
"H-how long will he live?" I asked, shaking and sobbing.
"I really don't know. It all depends on what happens. I promise we are doing everything we can to keep him alive." She assured, kneeling in front of me.
I nodded reluctantly and wiped away tears.
