Two Years Later...

As I feel myself starting to wake up, I'm greeted by an unfamiliar ceiling, and the view of Saki above me in the corner of my vision, her lap having been my pillow. For a brief moment I had forgotten where exactly we were, but I quickly remembered where exactly we were.

Recently after Saki had mentioned that she had been wanting to visit, we were invited to stay over with Saki's parents to see an upcoming meteor shower from one of her favorite view points. We arrived yesterday, and between spending time with her parents and Saki showing me around her hometown, we've been doing a ton, and I figured while we had some time we weren't doing anything I'd take a nap. And since I had been laying on the couch near Saki, she offered a lap pillow rather than me falling asleep as I had been sitting like I first planned.

As I got up, I said in a slightly dazed tone "Thanks for that Saki."

"It's fine. You look so peaceful while you sleep, and honestly I like doing that for you." Saki said, smiling as I moved back to sitting beside her.

"Hey, isn't the meteor shower tonight?" I asked

Saki nodded her head and said "Yes it is. We'll want to leave a bit after dinner if we want to get to where I have in mind in time."

"Right, cool. I'm hoping that tonight will be a moment for just the two of us." I said "There's something that I want to do tonight."

Saki nodded and said "Considering how you are about what's approaching, I figured as much."

"And you realizing why I'm looking forward to it is just another reason why you're the greatest." I said, stretching some. Quickly approaching is the three year anniversary of me and Saki getting together, and while I know that it's probably not as important as I make it out to be, I want to show Saki how grateful I am to have her in my life and to have gotten the chance to love her, and so I try to make it a special occasion for the two of us. This year I have something even more special in mind, and with everything set up, I'm ready to show her how much I love her.

As I woke the rest of the way up, the two of us laid there and ended up talking about our plans for this evening and whatever came to mind. A bit after her father got home from his work, Saki left to help her mother with dinner.

—----------------------------------------

That night as I walked alongside Saki, the sky shone overhead so brilliantly, reminding me of the day we first confessed to each other. Sure we've gone and looked at the stars other times in the past, but that memory has always stood out to me so much. Although we were walking hand in hand, Saki was guiding me up a hill, taking me to the peak, where at the top was a single bench overlooking a view of the area around us.

"This is it Y/n, before I came to Tokyo this is where I would always go to look at the stars." Saki said, smiling softly as she looked up

I held her hand a little tighter and said "And I can see why, the view here is gorgeous, and it looks like not many people come by this way."

We sat down together, and as we got comfortable, I put my arm around her, pulling her close. Because of the plans I have for later, I'm glad that there's no music Saki can hear, otherwise she'd pick up on my nervousness, but for now I just want to wait for the right moment.

Eventually the first meteor flew across the sky, a shining silver streak against the dark background, then another, and before long the storm had really begun as a myriad of streaks flew across the horizon.

"It's amazing..." I said, dumbfounded

"Isn't it? It's such a beautiful view." Saki replied, content to watch the storm

With Saki as happy as she was in that moment, and how beautiful the scenery was, a voice in my mind told me that this was my moment, and deciding to take it, I pulled a silk box out of my pocket and began to speak "You know, it still blows me away that we've been together for three years, you know that? In the grand scheme of things, I know it's not much, but it's still been so wonderful and my life has gotten so much brighter since I met you. I love you so much, and I wanna be alongside you for a long time to come, so I wanted to ask you: Saki Izumo, will you marry me?" As I asked my question, I opened the box, revealing an engagement ring inside.

I could feel my nerves starting to rise up, but when Saki began to smile as she looked at the ring, they were all blown away, and a moment later, as Saki answered I was greeted by my favorite color, the color of love "Yes Y/n, of course I'll marry you!"

As happy as I was, I immediately leaned forward to kiss Saki, the sight of silver streaks of light being the only reminder of the meteor shower in my mind at the time. I want to spend the rest of my life with the woman in front of me, and knowing that she'll marry me has turned this moment into something unforgettable, and I want to hold dear for the rest of my life.

After our lips parted, we held each other close and treasured this moment, enjoying the last of the meteor shower and knowing that we're going to spend the rest of our lives loving each other.

Eventually we headed back down, and that evening we gave the news to her parents, who were happy for the two of us. I'm happily they so easily entrusted me with their daughter's happiness, because even if I never say it aloud, I know that I will never do anything to hurt her, and that I always will do everything I can to make Saki as happy as I can.
