EVIE'S POV

Kai never texts me after I sent that. The 'read' underneath my text is glaring straight at me, clearly showing that Kai understands what I want.

But is it really what I want? Why does this sting when he stops trying?

I bite my lower lip, my fingers moving on their own and typing the words stuck in my head.

Me: That's all? Do more, try harder! I need you to show me that!

Staring at the screen, I hesitate whether to press the send button or not. Why would I be the one who's trying when he's the one who made the mistake? Heaving a sigh, I delete the words and turn off my phone.

Care is right. I should distant myself from him to see how it works.

"You look awful. Something happened?", Care asked once we sat at our favourite diner.

She called me as soon as I was outside Kai's apartment, wanting to meet. In her words, 'I want to tell you something! It's a surprise but I do hope you like it!'

More like Kai happened, I thought to myself but I smiled and shook my head. "Nothing. Just starting to adjust with outside life."

She gave a tender smile. "I'm here if you want to talk. You know I won't judge."

I frowned. What was that supposed to mean? Did she know something I don't?

"Talk about what?"

"Come on, Eve. I know about your friendship with Kai. If he's causing you trouble-"

"No, it's not him." I answered quickly and she arched her brow. "Fine, it is him."

"What did he do now?"

I ended up telling her about it. How he lied when I asked him about Zack and Liv. How I'm worried if I'm making the right choice because of Eli's warning.

"What if bringing him out is a mistake? What if Eli is right?"

She held my hand. "Eve, I don't know why you did that but you must have your reasons as to why you let him out."

To help him seek vengeance towards his father. I nodded.

"Then, trust yourself. Ignore what everybody says. What matters is you."

I rarely doubted myself because I knew why I did things. But it seemed that after Eli's incident, I started to question myself even though I didn't show it.

I smiled lovingly. "Thank you, I needed that."

"It's your words, not mine, remember?", Letting go of my hand, she reached for the menu. "I should change my course to Psychology now since I'm giving you advises."

"It will take more than that."

"Stop crushing my dream."

I rolled my eyes at the same time my phone vibrated and a message popped up on the screen. I couldn't help but to sigh. Noticing her eyes on me, I told her, "It's Kai. He's been trying to talk to me."

"Then, why don't you?"

"Because he never says sorry. I know it's not in his nature to apologise but that simple two words are enough. Especially when he accused me of liking Zack more than a friend. And vice versa."

She squinted her eyes. "Is he wrong though? Not about you feeling that way but Zack definitely looks like it."

I shot her a look. "Seriously? You too?"
