It had been a few days since this infection started, I've been trying my best to keep Ray and I both out of harms way. These... things are everywhere, we haven't been able to find a single person out there, it's all just these monsters. Currently the two of us are bunked inside some random home we found, desolate like the rest. I've been awake making sure nothing tries to hurt us while Ray rests, he most definitely needs it, we haven't slept. Ray shouldn't have to stress about this, he's still quite young, and I'll do whatever I can to protect my younger brother.
In that moment, a couple of quite groans could be heard, the smaller one was beginning to stir, he should be awake fairly soon. He slowly opened his eyes and closed them again, this cycle repeats one more time. "Hey buddy, you rest well?" The taller asked, and to which the smaller responds, "Yeah, did you get any rest?" His voice sounded a bit scratchy, common side effect of waking up. "Sure did!" They smiled at each other for a moment, when suddenly a granola bar landed in front of the squirrel. "Eat up, I think we should head out again." Now while the idea was dumb, the smaller understood the reasoning, there's a slim chance there's other people still out there. He ate the bar swiftly, not wanting to hold up his adventure loving friend. "Alright, I'm ready!" He announced, standing up, the other gave him a nod.
The two slowly but surely make their way through the city, the zombots around almost every corner. They try not to make too much noise, the two had learned that the more noise you make, the more likely the bots are to find you, they'd figure out ways to keep themselves safe without touching the zombots.
"Alright, we should be ok now." Mighty whispered, the other nodded, still holding onto the other. "Where do you think we should head now?" The smaller asked, his tone a low mumble. "Next town over, we'll see if anyone's there." With that, they head for the next city, Ray hummed as Mighty kept a keen eye ahead, analyzing the passing terrain. Currently all there was is trees, plants, and very small trails of whatever the zombots led behind in their footstep. Of course Mighty made sure they steered clear of it.
As they traveled, faint sounds of screams could be heard, have they found other people? The two looked at each other, nodded, and ran towards the sounds. They soon stumble upon the city, "Ray, I want you to stay in the air as long as you can, go look for survivors. I'll do what I can through these crowds." Ray stared at him, "What!? Are you crazy? You could get hurt!" Protests launch from the younger. "You heard me, stay in the air." The other snapped, his tone serious. He fell silent, the two stood there, just for a moment. "Fine, but if anything happens to you, expect me to be joining." The other looked at him shocked. "Don't, please don't. I've tried so hard just to keep you safe."
The two fell silent again, just staring at one another, Ray nods and hops off, while Mighty runs into the city. People rampantly running around, others getting grabbed, so much was happening. Mighty tried his best to avoid all the chaos, even at a few points almost getting touched himself.
Soon to be spotted, the one and only, Sonic the hedgehog. Mighty stared at him for a moment, but decided to run up to him, "Sonic!" The blur blur looked over at the sudden shout, "Mighty??" He replied, kicking away some zombots. "Wow, you are not looking great. What happened?" Mighty asked, "Doctor tried infecting Amy and I with his grunts. Thankfully I'm quick enough to keep myself safe, and Amy wasn't hurt in the exchange." He spoke, Mighty looked at him in awe, "I didn't think it'd work like that." "Neither did I, but here I am!" They both chuckled a little.
Sonic kept off as many zombots as he could in every kick, sweep, punch, whatever. "Hey, where's Ray at?" He asked, "He should be in the sky." Might replied, now feeling a bit worried. "Hm." Sonic hummed. A sudden loud shriek was emitted, the two looked at one another and headed over to the noise. It was Ray.
"Ray!" Mighty shouted, running over to him. He threw himself in front of the squirrel, feeling cool hands grab onto him. "Mighty!" The younger cried out, jumping up. Sonic stared at the two, they were really similar to him and Tails weren't they. "Sonic, I'm going to need you to take him to safety, please." Mighty spoke, punching the bots away. Ray stared at him while Sonic gave a quick nod and swiftly made a pathway. "Mighty, what do you mean?" Ray asked, "Just go, I'll be right be right behind you. Trust me." The armadillo replied. Begrudgingly, he listened, and ran down the path Sonic had made, Mighty followed right behind him.
"I found another!" A shout was heard, the ships doors opened and a walkway shot out. There stood Amy, Tails, Espio, and many others. Ray ran past Sonic, some smiled upon seeing the small squirrel appear. "Ray!" Tails hollered, Ray only grinned at the other. Meanwhile in the background, Mighty slowly crept up. He gave out a small chuckle and a grin. Maybe he would survive this, he spotted many friends he's made throughout the years on board. He raised his hand to wave, and grinned.
And suddenly he stopped, he stared at the others in a way he's never before. He walked up towards Ray, only to be pushed back by Sonic. "Amy, I'm gonna need assistance!" The for-mentioned female ran off the ship and ran towards the squirrel. "Come with me." She spoke, but instead Ray decided to look behind him. As soon as he saw his friend, his brother, a shiny red-silver color, he flipped out. "Mighty!" He cried out, but before he could run off, he was held back by Amy. "Mighty!! Mighty please!" He cries and pleas, screaming at the top of his lungs, reaching out for the other. "I don't wanna leave without you! I don't wanna leave you behind!"
Everyone on board stared with a pang of guilt, their chests heavy, they all understood the feeling, losing people they care about as well. They watched as Amy dragged him aboard, carrying him in her arms. All the squirrel could do was cry out, begging and pleading to be let go, to stay with Mighty. They all had decided it was best that Espio kept an eye on Ray, since he's the only person on board who's also had a long history with the younger. With all this settled, the ship closed itself off, Sonic hopping on top of it, and flew off.
Espio and Ray sat near each other in a corner of the ship, the smaller leaning on the chameleon, sniffles and heavy breathing was all that was audible. Espio understood the younger didn't want to talk, I mean who would? Even he stopped talking for a while after losing Vector and Charmy to this shitty virus. A heavy guilt carried on his shoulders, Ray probably felt the same. If sitting here with the younger provided any type of comfort, he was willing to give it, he cared about him just as dearly as he cared for his family.
"Can I hug you?" The smaller asked, the other snapped his head at him, "Of course, if it makes you feel any better." And suddenly the chameleon was embraced by the squirrel, he wrapped his arms around the smaller. Ray felt a lot less stiff after this choice of action, having been provided a sense of comfort and security that he needed right now. The two continued to hug, sitting there until they both drifted into rest. Maybe they could provide for each other until they figure out how to fix this mess.
