MONDAY AFTERNOON.
after school hours.

The front of the bus is where I sat, in my head about everything. Though I sat with my three school friends; Parker, Trey, and Renè, I kept quiet. I listened to their conversation jump from topic to topic as the big yellow bus stopped at different stops—letting kids off. They were the only ones I felt I somewhat connected to in my suburban life because they also had a little edgy side to them.

"I did too take his car!" Renè protested to the two boys who constantly called her bluff of stealing her father's car. She was definitely lying— her ass was way too short to even reach a petal.

Renè Townsend (Nènè for short) was the only friend of mine who was also a girl. We met in the beginning of seventh grade—Her personality was very attractive; she was funny and rugged. She knew what she liked and didn't.  Renè was chubby with a short stature but she never let people clown her for it and neither did I.

"Yeah right. You had some other dwarfs helping you press the gas and brake?" Parker and Trey laughed up a storm. "And yo daddy drives an old seventy-five Pacer that put-puts down the street, I know it woke everybody up!" Trey added.

Parker and Trey Copeland were brothers—Parker was dark and Trey was light, they were like Ying and Yang. Their parents owned an automotive company so they pretty much knew about every damn car in the world and didn't let anyone forget it. Both were about my height if not taller with handsome facial features. But, if someone were to ask me, I'd argue that Parker was the cutest.

I tuned out of the conversation and thought about my very own problems.
All I could think about was me solidifying me and Bobby's relationship. As far as I knew, we were together now but I couldn't eat the excitement I once felt about us.

Mike would hate me forever if I decided to go through with dating Bobby. Though I didn't like Mike in that way, it still felt wrong to betray him. He was my best-friend before I knew it and the last thing I wanted to do was hurt him.

But I wanted Bobby... more than I knew. We understood each other—shit, he understood me than I understood myself. He knew what I liked without me having to speak.. he knew how to care for me.

And when my home situation started, he was there.

"Karyn!" I snapped my neck to look at Renè as she yelled my name. "Snap back into reality and say something, don't let these ugly Oreo babies talk down on me like this."

I chuckled at her comeback. One thing she was gonna do is make you forget what you were going through with her jokes.

"Handle your own battles, Shirley Wilson. Karyn wanna daydream about those fake ass wannabe Jackson Five boys so let her." Parker dissed my friends. My lips turned up quicker than quicksand once I heard that.

"The name is New Edition and they will be more known than your ass in about five years max! Meanwhile you and your nightlight brother will be in Boston working on dirty cars while they're in Hollywood." I finished as Renè cackled and dapped me up.

New Edition was in effective mode and I was spreading the word like flies on shit. They had talent shows lined up for the whole summer according to Brooke to get their name out there. I wanted to help in anyway I could. Even if it meant defending their upcoming name like my life depended on it.
