"y/n, is there anything you'd like to confess?"
pentalone, dottore, and pierro had you knelt in front of them in the main hall. keiko was standing beside you, her head hung low while childe stood behind you, having been forced to look at his superiors as much as he didnt want to.
you understood why you were here.
you had committed a great sin as a harbinger and you knew that it was unforgivable.
yesterday, when you, childe and keiko were doing your daily task in sumeru, the three of you came across a sight you never thought you'd see. the culprit who supposedly stole money from the harbingers wasnt actually evil, he was just stealing the money to help his dying family. you told childe to spare him since you felt bad, and he listened to you without a second thought.
keiko neednt even speak, she was already planning on arguing with you if you wanted to still proceed with getting all the money back from him. you knew very well by failing this big task, pierro would be disappointed, and perhaps punish you severely, and childe knew that too. everyone seemed to know this apart from keiko — who you didnt tell beforehand because you were afraid she would be conflicted.
but you were sure keiko knew what was about to happen now. as your personal agent, she should have done the job for you when you didnt.
childe technically did nothing wrong under the harbinger law, because he was not tasked with the specific mission to claim the money back — his task was to kill him. if you didnt do the first part of the plan, which was claim the money, then childe wouldnt be able to complete the final part — thus rendering childe the only one not guilty.
you stared at the floor, unable to really move. you werent sure what was going to happen to you, but you knew for a fact it was going to hurt. "i confess that i failed my mission."
"and why is that?"
"i felt bad for the peasant man." you admitted. you knew better than to lie directly at pierro's face. dottore however, laughed at your response.
"you know y/n, ever since we bestowed upon you the trickster codename, it has become very hard for us to trust what you say even though it sounds convincingly accurate~"
