Chapter 20

She gained back clear vision again. The whispering had been louder this time. So loud, it had hurt. What was that? Lumine looked up again. Aether came back to, landing right in front of her. He reached in his pocket and pulled out two figures. Although she had never seen them before she knew that it were the Hydro and Pyro gnoses. "What-", she wanted to ask but he took her hand and placed both of them on her palm. "Trust me...", he replied gently. A warm feeling began to flow into her and she sensed new energy inside of her. She knew what had happened, she experienced it before. He took both of them back and looked at her: "Try both of them first, alongside the Dendro element" "But-", her protest was cut off by a rain of thick icycles reminding her, that they were still in a battle. Her brother managed to block them with a shield formed of dark matter. "- I know how to fight!", she concluded her sentence rising her sword again. Aether launched energy balls again and looked at her. "I don't doubt that, but please trust me on this. The whispering and pain come every time you use a new element, so try them first! I'll keep her busy!" How could he know about- ?
With that he took off again hoping for her to listen to his advice. And hoping for it to not awaken a part of her memories. The lie wasn't supposed to be uncovered. The archon looked at him smiling preparing more missles to shoot. "It's happening, isn't it?", she asked. She noticed. "You're not going to keep your charade up for much longer..." She knew. This was bad.
He fired more blades at the Tsaritsa diving down towards her, attacking her with his sword. His blade hit an ice shield and with his raw strength he pushed against the shield causing both of them to move back. From behind the shield, a sword made of ice appeared, trying to hit him. Aether backed off and flew higher up only to throw more elemental blades at her. His opponent dodged them, skating over the floor with her ice. Then she charged at him, creating thinly supported stairs to walk on with her powers, but he dogded her hit, leading to her needing to catch herself with her ice. "You're getting on my nerves...", she growled, danger rooted in her voice. She seemed to loose patience with him. Her eyes wandered for a moment, then fixated him again. The archon probably planned her next move. Aether had to be careful.
Her structure was destroyed by the fight below Aether. A heavily breathing Childe stood triumphant over the guards of the Tsaritsa. He looked towards his former archon preparing for a strike against her. His hunger for battle was awakened.
As Tartaglia rushed towards the archon, Aether followed him through the air down to her planing to use this attack from Childe for his gain. The Hydro blades of the former Harbinger hit the icy blade of the archon multiple times. The Abyss prince attacked her with an elementally charged hit, that she managed to block. She slid back on her ice, gaining freedom from the two attacking men. "Traitor...", she huffed looking at Childe. The archon raised her hand to prepare an attack. For a little moment her eyes wandered again, before she launched the spikes she made.
Aether's eyes followed Childe's reflexive movement. The former Harbingers ran into the attack line of the spikes that were clearly directioned past them. The Prince's mind was behind on what happened before his eyes. With his blades, Tartaglia destroyed several of the missles mid air. As the former Harbinger landed on the stairs to the throne, Aether's mind caught on. The Tsaritsa wasn't attacking them, she was after Lumine. Neither of them could catch a breath because the archon already made more missles to shoot in Lumine's direction. This time Aether could react and created a shielding barrier in front of Lumine and Childe. More spikes rushed past him going around to the throne. Quickly Aether took off and chased them.
"You're quite skilled, Tartaglia. What a shame...", she said. Her voice soft and singing again. But her eyes seemed to have changed colour into a darker shade. She had lost patience with them.
Now the Cryo archon was non stop firing in the direction of Lumine and it got more and more difficult to keep them from her. Aether looked at her. She seemed fully knocked out right now. Please, no... Gaining her memories back now would be the worst possible timing. But that wasn't possible right? Not from just six gnoses. It needed all of them, right? Maybe it were her emotions that had this impact. He gained his memories back after the cataclysm. His sympathy for this world had died already that day. But hers?
His dark matter destroyed more missles as he heard his sister cry out. His eyes widened. Blood covered her hands and tears in her eyes.
"Childe!", she screamed bend over him trying to stop him from dying. Her hands pressed on the wound on his stomach but blood continued to stream out the wound. "No, no, no, no, no, no... Y-you promised...", she cried, "You promised T-tonia and T-t-eucer and A-nthon to return b-back ho-home. S-s-so d-d-d-don't d-d-die on me h-here..." She tried to catch her breath as Childe touched her face. "Tell them, I'm sorry...", he whispered before closing his eyes. Lumine screamed. No. Not again. Someone died because of her again. It was her fault again. If she hadn't been that weak, there wouldn't have been a reason to protect her. And if she went alone to find her brother he would be still at home. And if she had thought about her decision before entering that portal he hadn't found her and wouldn't have had to take her in. It's her fault all over again. Cautiously as if Childe's body would burst she took her hands off the wound and grabbed her sword. Lumine stood up and faced the Tsaritsa, who grinned sinister. The archon seemed to take delight in Childe's death and her grief. Filled with rage the Traveler lifted her sword and pointed it in the direction of her enemy. Fire rained down upon her, burning her icy shield. Lumine stepped down the stairs as she watched the fire falling on the archon. The same rage as before filled her heart, now having even more fuel than before.
