"Great, thanks so much for the cauliflower Y/N, it looks great!" Jodi squealed at the fresh produce in her hands.
"You're welcome, Jodi! And please, if you need anything in the future, let me know! I've got plenty where that came from." I smiled back at her.
"Oh, I will!"
I trotted along the dirt path down towards Marnie's. While I've got plenty of hay left in the silo, I figured it'd be a good idea to have some extra stored away for the winter.
I run my hand along the fencing, greeting one of her cows along the way. When I finally make it to the door and enter, I'm annoyed to find Marnie absent."What? Not this bullshit again!" I mutter to myself. I decide to wait for a bit to see if she'll return. Perhaps she's running some quick errands? After a half hour of mindlessly scrolling on my phone, I cut my losses and turn to leave. But before I do I notice a fine specimen walk through the door. Was he Harry fucking Styles? No. But with the way I was looking at him you'd think he was. But he didn't need to be.
The glare he wore on his face would've turned anyone away. Not me though. I open my mouth to greet him, but the words don't come. He sighs and finally decides to speak,"What's your problem? You look like a fish with your mouth open like that."
"I-I'm sorry... Just was waiting for Marnie." I speak quietly, becoming increasingly self conscious about the heat rising to my face.
"Guess I should've figured as much. I'm sure she'll be back soon. Please close your mouth while you're at it, I don't need you drooling onto the floor." he sneers in my direction upon walking towards what I assume is his room, firmly closing the door. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. A moment later, Marnie walks in with... nothing. Where in the everloving fuck did she go?
"Y/N, I wasn't expecting to find you here! Sorry to keep you waiting."
"Don't worry about it, I don't mind." I shift awkwardly. Marnie quirks an eyebrow as she steps behind the counter. Just then, Shane emerges from his room, glances at me, then scoffs as he leaves the house. I look down at my shoes that, despite their unkempt appearance, suddenly became interesting. Marnie chuckles and begins to speak,
"Oh, that's my nephew Shane. He's... rough around the edges. But I'm sure if you try to befriend him, maybe you'll be able to get through. It'd be nice to see him warm up to somebody."I look to Marnie then back to the door. A grin crawls onto my face,
"Challenge accepted."
