The deal went off without a hitch.
The tenants had accepted the offer.
"Nice job, Jamie." Garrett told me.
"Thank you."
"I guess I underestimated your girlfriend."
"Me too."
I was surprised Callie didn't do the right thing.
She manages to surprise me everyday.
Callie amazes me by the person she is and most of the things she does.
I pushed the thoughts aside.
I got back to work.

I was at the Legal Aid Office, working.
Marcus came out of his office.
"Attention, attention!"
All of us gave him our attention.
"Unfortunately, we lost the case against Anwei. We lost the case against Hoffman, Braverman, and Tensley."
I nodded my head.
"It's an early day. All of you."
I texted Jamie I was getting out early.
They all left.
I stuck around.
"I'm sorry you lost the case, Marcus."
"I know. I know how difficult it was for you to step aside to let your boyfriend run his case."
"Yeah."
"You shouldn't let your boyfriend tell you what to do. Because if you do, you're allowing him to exert control over you."
"Thanks for the advice, Marcus. I'll take it into consideration."
"That's all I can hope."

I got out of work early.
I got a text from Callie.
"Early day. Be home soon."
I was going to get her instead.
"I'm sorry you lost the case, Marcus."
"I know. I know how difficult it was for you to step aside to let your boyfriend run his case."
"Yeah."
"You shouldn't let your boyfriend tell you what to do. Because if you do, you're allowing him to exert control over you."
"Thanks for the advice, Marcus. I'll take it into consideration."
"That's all I can hope."
I walked in.
"Hey."
"Hi."
We hugged.
"Ready to go?"
"Yeah."
We left.
"So... How much of that did you hear?"
"Enough to understand what Marcus thinks of me."
"Do you think I care what he's got to say?"
"No."
"Then neither should you. I love you. You know that."
