"You have requested the presence of the living goddess who walks this world. Speak quickly but clearly, for I have just finished my coffee and you face my horrifying wrath
"Good morning to you too, lifeline Wild" boss lady said, looking up from her desk. The boss lady's office is what you expect of anyone who is important ; not one thing out of place, not a speck of dust any where in sight, it gave you the sneaking suspicion that there was a gun hidden somewhere in the room and two identical potted plants. The only thing different was there was no windows, and the room was in various shades of navy blue. It was basically the white house (if we still had one) but without the rug, covered in blue, abd it gave off the feeling that you weren't leaving the room without having your nerves fried. Our group, minus Daniel, had the tendency to call it the principal's office, for the only reason we were ever called there was because we got sloppy and left some evidence that we were the ones who caused a massive prank that at least half of the more tough less fun lifelines had fallen victim too.
Whatever it is, there is no evidence that I did it. And if there is, I was framed. " I say as I sit down on one the chairs, pretty laying on it instead of sitting.
"Shockingly, I haven't called you in here because you have been breaking the rules again. I have business to discuss with you about a new lifeline, " Boss lady says, showing what looks to be a hint of emotion on her face. That was new. Boss lady was as professional as they come, 45 years old give or take, her hair starting to grey ( probably because of me and my friends). The boss lady didn't look like someone you would look twice if you saw her walking in the street. But if a mugger jumped out and held a knife to her, she would have him face down on the floor, arms behind his back before he register what happened.
There have been a few code red situations where I have seen boss lady take down fighters about three times her size, and she would beat them without even looking like she could break a sweat. There had been some debate about what the boss lady did before she created lifelines, and the most popular theory was that she was head of hand to hand combat training for the cia.
Every group had a different theory, and ours was that she was a special ops military trainer. No one really knows who boss lady was before the end of the world, and I don't think it really mattered. She would still beat down any opponent without a batting an eye, regardless if she was retired, in the army or was a secretary before she came boss. To me, she was like an older, white, girl version of Nick Fury who didn't swear as much."Um I think I may need to go the medical bay and get my head and hearing checked. I thought I just heard you say that i have been called in your office, not because I am in trouble, again, but that you wanted me to have something to do with a new lifeline,"
Your hearing would appear to be working just fine, its your sanity that has others concerned," boss lady says, looking at me like I was an experiment she set up and the results were not quite right.
That look on your face won't do anything but earn you some extra cleaning duties, lifeline Wild. But yes, you did hear correctly. A new lifeline is about to arrive at the base and I want you and your group to teach him on what it means to be a successful lifeline.
"I noticed that you avoided the word "responsible " and said successful instead. Cane, isn't the fact you have to use that word choice enough to convince you that you that this will end with half the base destroyed? Can't someone with, your words not mine, some understanding what it means to be responsible and mature, like Daniel or frankly anyone but me be this person's trainer?" I whine. Technically, everyone was supposed to address boss lady as " head lifeline Canewood," But everyone in my group broke more and worse rules than not addressing a authority figures by their full title.
I am well aware what I said, lifeline wild. As you know, we do psychological assessment as well as physical assessment of skills. myself and two other licensed psychologists look at the assessments and discuss which group would be most beneficial both to the new lifeline, and the group they might be paired with. His skills are similar to yours, and it was agreed that under your training as his mentor, or as you put it, trainer, would be beneficial to both you, him and your group.
But why do I have to train him? Marcus or Daniel is clearly the better choice. And I thought I was banned from training rookies since the "grand Christianity Latin lesson". I still get holy water thrown on me when ever they walk into the same room as me, or vice versa," I say, still probably sounding like a two year old trying to convince their mom they don't need a nap; cranky and on the urge of a tantrum. I sat up in the uncomfortable chair, leaning my head back to stare at the ceiling while I crossed my arms. I knew I was acting like a two year old, but I didn't care. there was a chance that the boss lady would change her mind and let the new kid be someone else's problem. It took months for me to begin to tolerate anyone new in my group, let alone begin to trust them enough for them to go on lockup hunting, a situation that requires you trust your group or you get hospitalized, and that was when someone other than me trained them. I got frustrated easy, I hated anyone new, i was pretty much the worst teacher anyone could have.
"You are banned from being near a new lifeline who hasn't been assigned to your group, not every new lifeline who comes and trains at the base," the boss lady said, sounding ever so slightly frustrated. I raised my head so I could see the boss lady, and sure enough, her hands were on her hips and her the corner of her moth twitches. I groaned out loud. I knew those signs well, they were the signs her patience was running out. If I kept poking, than her lips would turn in a frown and her eyebrows would narrow, complete with a glare that just might cause a rookie lifeline to combust. Than it would turn into a shouting match, and two solid weeks of extra labor I hate the most and at least of month of privileges gone would follow. I was smart enough to know to when to fight, and when to compromise.
Fine, I'll train this guy. But I have some conditions. One, everyone in the group trains him in some way. I don't like other people other than my friends, so if I'm going to spend most of time with someone i don't know than I'm not doing it without backup.
That was part of the original plan, I heard her mumble
Two, "I say glaring a moment before continuing. "If he doesn't listen to me or he does something stupid, I decide what he has to do for punishment, no matter how dumb, immature, or possibly pointless it may seem. And before you say anything, know that I am completely against hitting another person because they unintentionally did something wrong. If they are being stupid on purpose, than i hit them.
As long as no blood is drawn, than that can be arranged," Cane said, folding her arms on her desk
And my last condition is I want to access to the weapons room alone and by my self. I don't need to be followed by someone every time I want to play with the new toys or refill my personal weapon.
My compromise is that we have guards outside the weapons room, but you are allowed to check out weapons alone.
Done. When's this new pain in my side going to be here?
Lifeline Wild...
With no disrespect, Canewood, i told you I don't like new people messing up the working plan the group and I already have. I don't like to have to factor in new players, and he has to earn the right to be accepted in our group. When he does that, than i will call him by his name. But untill than, i will call him what I will. If this guy throws a tantrum because he doesn't like what I call him, than how is going to function when the bad guys are shooting at him?
He is arriving tomorrow at noon. I expect you to actually show up and show him around.
I will show up, but probably not on time if you don't want me to me that mean to him. And than I turn and walk out out to join my friends
