It took us less than twenty minutes to arrive at the base. To the eyes of someone who wasn't a lifeline, it looked an abandoned greenhouse that was left to ruins after the apocalypse. But to a lifeline, it was home, or a place that sends you off on an adventure. Every lifeline lived at the base, unless they were off on a mission. The base looked, on the outside, just another abandoned building falling to pieces, but on the inside it was it was no one had ever left. We went the cafeteria, considering it was nine in the morning and Marcus and I haven't had anything to eat yet. After getting our food and some caffeine, we walk around the cafeteria, looking for our group's table. It didn't take us long to find our table, considering most of the people in our group didn't exactly follow standard lifeline uniform. We were required to wear the uniform, but most of the group had put on their own personal touches to make them stand out, and that made it easier to find them.
"Sleeping Beauty!!! I thought the sleeping curse put on you was supposed to make you sleep for 150 years," my friends Moose joked. Moose's real name was Alice, but since she was 6 foot and she is capable of doing massive damage if she was mad enough, she was nicknamed moose and the nickname stuck. Only the people who had authority higher than hers called her Alice, and even than she hated it.
"I slept for thirteen hours. Jesus slept for three days and started a new religion. Therefore I am training to become the new Jesus," I say failing at keeping a straight face.
"Why would we need a new Jesus?" My friend says looking at me like a child she had failed to raise properly. Just before i could explain the wonders I could do for the world as the new Jesus, the only person who isn't required to have supervision by another group when they want to do weapons training, Daniel, spoke for me.
"Moose, remember when you asked Jane what "shipping" was?" Daniel asked. He was about the same age as Marcus with olive skin and serious blue eyes that screamed responsibility. He was the father figure in the group, always trying but failing to get his group to be serious and mature other than when it was absolutely necessary. So naturally, when he was first assigned to group, everyone thought he was a goody two shoes who was only assigned to the group to whisper all the things we were doing wrong in the Boss's ear.
"I don't think I can forget it, Daniel,"
Well something tells me that she can go on longer on this whole " training to be Jesus" than when she explained shipping.
"Quick Marcus change the subject!" Moose says with panic written across her face.
"Did you have any idea on why Jane and I have been summoned? " Marcus asked quickly
"You guys didn't hear?"
"Moose, We just got here I am still in the process of waking up. So of course we know what everyone who was here before us is talking about because we are telepathic and can read thoughts, " I reply while rolling my eyes.
Since you two are the only ones who can confirm if the rumor I'm about to tell you is true, I'll ignore that sarcastic comment. Anyway the rumor is that a new rookie showed up at the base this morning-"
"Big deal. We get rookies all the time Moose," I say, still not fully awake and not ready to care about some new guy who showed up at the base. Chances are high that the reason there are rumors about the guy is that he has skills that are impressive to the people who basically live at boot camp by choice.
"Jane, finish your coffee before you interrupt me when I'm trying to explain what's going on. Now where was I? Oh yeah, the rookie. You know how most of the rookies we get are usually about thirteen years old, have little to no skills, and we are not allowed anywhere near them?
The reason why there are guards in front of the training room is because of us, Moose." I say.
Well not this guy. Not only is the guy 16, The rumor is that the guy has skills that match or surpass his age group if he was a lifeline, and boss lady wants our Jane to see if he can make it as a lifeline without getting killed
"Bull," I say, finishing my coffee.
"You know there are nicer ways of stating your disbelief," Daniel said.
I'm not Willy Wonka. I don't own a candy factory filled with tiny singing men, so don't expect me to sugar coat unless you plan to sing and dance with some orange face paint and green hair dye," I say, getting up to throw away my empty coffee cup. Now that I had my coffee, my urge to stab someone in the eye had passed. To an extent.
Moose, after the rookie incident of March third, boss lady said, and I quote "the next time I will ever let you get within five feet of the training room, alone, with a new lifeline is the day anyone with any sense if self preservation and responsibility goes certifiably insane
"Well not all training takes place in the training room-"
" Moose," I interrupt, knowing full well why she wanted me to train the rookie. "There is better chance that I will show up at the bas and wear for the entire day, nothing but a grass skirt and an afro wig and than proceed to do the hula on top of this table, sober, than the boss lady letting me train this guy. She might let Marcus do it, but me? I'm not allowed to even be in the same room as a new lifeline, without supervision. And let me tell you, I have worked hard to earn that right, because it was not easy.
"Wait, you mean you did that sh-" But before Moose could say anything else I hear my name being called and to report woth Marcus to boss lady's office.
"Chances are higher that I'm trouble than the rumor is true," I say trying to sound serious and stern, like I've seen Marcus do when he goes over strategy with some of the more important lifelines. I love my group mates to the end of the galaxy, but sometimes they make me want to find out if I could actually get away with murder

Well hello my loyal subjects and readers. I know I haven't updated in a while but not very many people read this so mind just went "what the hell". And also I happened to have like a major writer's block so that didn't help too much either. I did technically explain how the lifelines live ( its in the base ). I will go more in depth on what a lifeline is, who the boss lady and all that fun stuff. Future Queen Of The World, over and out
