I slowly start packing up the few thing we had brought

Limping around the room as I pick up books, and clothes

Sam was back at my house collecting a few things I wanted

I didn't want to face him yet...

After packing a bit, I sit back down and watch a bit of TV

everything was still a bit sore and I haven't walked much this last last week

My  phone lights up signaling a notification

It's from Sam

Hey, Im headed back to my house to drop off ur things then ill be right there. So in like 20 mins, k? See u soon<3

Cheeks blushing uncontrollable as I reply with a heart back

These text just reminded me of when Kate would text

Or was it Max?

My mind was fuzzy after  dad had told me what happened

Max was not much of a friend as I remember but Kate... Kate was always there

I grab my phone and look up that day

Multiple websites popped up but one caught my eye

On August 29, 2018, There was a mild car crash involving 18 year old Madison Wilfred and 17 year old Max Owen'

That can't be it... What about Kate? I swear she was there

Max Owen was the driver That had struck Madison Wilfred causing her many injuries

Kate? Where is she?

I continue to scroll, becoming more and more invested in this mystery

Max Owen was intoxicated and did not survive the crash. Madison Wilfred was the only survivor

I scroll through site after site to see his name everywhere

Max Owen, July 19, 2002 - August 29, 2018

Kates not here. Why?

"Hey, Mads! I'm back and I brought some burgers!" I hear bursting through the door

Throwing my phone and turning to see Sam smiling wide with a paper bag

"You good?" she asks placing the food down

"Yeah, I'm good, you just startled me" I say taking in a few breathes

She shrugs it off and sits beside me as we eat our food

"We have another hour so take your time eating" Sam says handing me my fries, burger and drink

We sit and eat while watching some TV

Even with how calm and relaxed I was acting, I couldn't get Max out of my head

He's dead on the same day as Kate but where was hers?

Bout half an hour later, Sam gets up 

"I'm gonna throw out the trash and hand in your forms then we will be out, okay? Be back in a sec!" she says collecting the garbage and the clipboard before walking out

Minutes after, Sam and I walk out slowly and start our way to her house

My phone buzzes as we walk towards the door

I pull it out as I sit down to see it's dad

Love you, kiddo. Hope your doing better

I soft smile appears on my face as I reply with

Thank you

As Sam started driving I look back at the sites still wondering 

Where was Kate? Wasn't she with me?
