Once again, this is done on my phone so I'm sorry for the spelling mistakes. Enjoy my little doves.
Xox- Jo.~
Sarahlyn decided to go straight to the pet shop. She couldn't think about going anywhere else. She cried the whole way there, not paying any attention to the stares and answering simply whenever she was asked if she was alright. She cried when she got off the bus and cried when she got to the pet store, ignoring the jolly greeting from the Tall-good looking-smiley guy from the day before. She headed straight for the puppies, dropping herself smack in the middle of all the commotion that usually made her laugh and smile and forget everything.
But nothing came. No joy, no happiness, no laughter. She reached up a hand to her cheeks only to find that they were still spilling out water and that, to her surprise she was still heartbroken.
No wonder Kelly never minded when he spoke to me. She knew I wasn't a threat. She probably wished she couldve been there to see my face. They're probably laughing about it right now. I wonder where I'll see it first tomorrow... On Facebook? On the school's site? On Twitter? On spotted? I can see the headlines now "Fat Bitch rejected in front of her home."
She laughed bitterly, feeling as though her air was being cut off.
In the distance, she could hear, the-boy-from-before's footsteps approaching quickly and feel him lean down beside her. She could smell his perfume, what was it? Lacoste? Ralph Lauren? She couldnt tell but she heard him in the distance asking her if she was alright. She tried focusing on his voice but found herself unable to focus, her breathing getting harder. Panic started to rise up into her. He reached a hand out, landing it on her shoulder and she brushed him off. Don't touch me, she wanted to say. But the words would not come out. Instead her breathing became harder and she became more panicked. She looked at him with wide eyes as the tears pooled down the cheeks and perimeter of her vision began to darken. She fell to the ground and heard the boy call for help as her vision faded and she blacked out.~
The first thing she noticed was the white ceiling. I know where I am, she thought to herself, sitting up on the bed. What she didn't expect to see was the-boy-from-before sitting beside her. He smiled when he saw her.
"Look who's awake." He said cheerfully.
"Why are you here?" She asked quickly.
"Because you fainted." he replied with a confused smile on his face.
"No, I know that. My question is why are you here." She replied sharper.
He laughed at this, smiling up at me brightly as he replied "it's the same answer as before."
"You think this is funny?" She snapped at his and his eyes widened as he was caught off guard.
"I- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend-"
"Get out", she replied, harsh and mean. She didn't know why she was being so evil to him. This wasn't in her character. This is why everyone hates you,She told herself.
Her mother chose this exact moment to walk into the room, filling it with even more tension.
"JESUS SARAHLYN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE- oh... Who is this?" Her mother smiled up at the stranger, surprised by the visit.
"I'm Maximilian."
"He's nobody." They replied at the same time. Sarah glaring at him.
"He was just leaving. Now."
"Sarah! Where are your manners?" Sophie reprimanded.
"Its fine" Maximilian replied, his tone serious for once. "I'm leaving anyways." He said as he turned to leave. He stopped at the threshold, hesitated before turning and saying "By the way, Sarahlyn, you're welcome for performing CPR on you cause you stooped breathing and saving your life. It was no problem, really." He said and stomped out of the room leaving Sarah to feel extremely guilty and ungrateful. Her mom, as if sensing her feelings, sought out to make things worse.
"Well, that was ungrateful of you." She scolded and Sarah replied by scowling at her mother. But she didn't stop, she had more to add, she always had more to add.
"He just saved your life!"
"Yeah, thanks mom, I think I heard it when he said it the first time." She replied harshly, and now it was her moms turn to scowl at her daughter.
"Youve been skipping school." Was all she said at first. Unable to find a better way to begin. Sarah stayed silent. There was always more.
"And you've been starving yourself, as well.
Silence.
"The doctors told me that...Well? Do you have anything to say for yourself? God, I feel like this is my fault..."
"It is." Came Sarah's short answer.
Her mother snapped her head up to look at her, her eyes asking what have I done that makes this my fault?
Sarah took in upon herself to explain very clearly what her mother had done wrong.
"Youve never listened to me. I've been telling you from the start that I don't want to go to that school and youve never once listened. You called me dramatic and ignored me and never listened to my complaints. You've never complimented me. Daddy always used to. But all you do is tell me I'm fat and suggest ways to lose weight. All you do is hate... Why do you hate me Sophie?" She said, gasping for air as she realised that she was crying, she wasnt about to stop now. "Theyve called me names and bullied me. They've laughed at me and tortured me. And when I've had enough and I come home to tell you about it, all you ever say is that I'm being dramatic. You blame my weight. You think I don't know about my weight? You think I don't fucking see it?! I SEE IT EVERYDAY. AND I CANT GET RID OF IT.I CANT DO ANYTHING TO IT EXCEPT ACCEPT IT. Because nobody else will... Not even my own mother. And I hate you for it. I hate you for every insult you've ever thrown my way and every disgusted look you've ever cast upon me cause all I could think is that 'daddy would've never done this to me'" She sat there hysterical for a couple of minutes, her mother quietly sobbing.
"I'm so sorry baby. What do you want me to do?"
Each of Sarah's tears felt as though she were dropping weight after weight of sadness, so she kept going for the final blow. "I don't want your fucking apology. It's too late now. I want you to leave. Leave me the fuck alone."
Her mother stood there, dazed for a couple of seconds but didn't wait for Sarah to tell her again as she left the room sobbing.
Sarah spent the rest of the night refusing to eat and crying herself to sleep.~
She looked at herself in the mirror, wincing as she saw how swollen her eyes were. The grey in her eyes seemed almost dull in comparison to the red surrounding them. She sighed and walked out of the hospital washroom, heading back to her bed. She sat down folding her legs and changed the channel to something more interesting. The nurse had decided that the depressing news was something that a hospitalized 17 year old would be interested in watching. She changed to a hockey game and kicked back her feet relaxing more.
A knock came on the door.
"I'm not hungry!" Sarah called sharply, although she could feel her stomach contract painfully at the thought of food.
The door opened anyways and Sarah groaned out loud.
"No matter what you tell me, I'm not going to- oh... Hi." She said suddenly, her face heating up slightly."Hi." Said Maximilian wearily.
"Listen, about yesterday, I'm sorry. And thanks, by the way, for saving my life." Not sure I wanted to be saved though, she thought to herself.''Its okay. You're going through a lot." He said with a smile.
Sarah smiled back.
"So... What are you doing here?" She asked awkwardly.
"Just visiting. Making sure you're alright." He replied shortly."Oh...why?"
"Because."
"Because?"
"Just because, Sarahlyn."
"Did you eavesdrop on me and my mother yesterday?"
His face heated up and she groaned lying back in bed and covering her face with her hands.
"I'm sorry I eavesdroped, but I did and now I'm here so...I'm here and I'm staying."
Sarah groaned again.
"I dont need a babysitter, you can go now." She whined waving her hand at him to leave.
"I'm staying."
"Christ, you're stubborn! This is none of your business! I've met you once and all of a sudden you want to take care of me? Who the hell do you think you are? A Jehovah's witness?" She asked and Maximilian rolled his eyes."You're being dramatic." He said and Sarah stooped, looking at him straight in the eyes. He hadn't realised what he said until did and then it was all apologies and excuses as his face heated up. Sarah smiled, knowing that she was, in fact, being dramatic. That doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt though, she thought.
The room quieted down and they snapped their heads towards the television as the speakers roared, the camera paning towards the crowd as it went wild. A goal had been made.
"Damn. I missed it." Sarah muttered to herself, forgetting the boy until he spoke again.
"Hockey fan?"
She snapped her head towards him and he smiled, one of those smiles.
"Why do you smile so much?" She asked before she could think better of it.
"Answer my question first."
"Fine. Yes. I love it."
"Because I'd rather be happy than sad."
It was a simple answer but it made her think. It was enough to make her quiet down again, turning her gaze back to the game but not fully giving it her attention. Her mind was stuck on his words. I wish I could be happy too. I wonder what its like, she thought to herself before she was torn from her thoughts by a simple question."So... When are you leaving this place?"
"Why?"
"Simple question, Sarahlyn."
"Just Sarah is fine."
"Sarah, then, when are you leaving?"
"What, I don't get a nickname for you?"
He laughed then, shaking his head.
"You're really good at avoiding questions aren't you?"
"Some say its a talent, really." Another laugh, light and cheerful. It kind of irritated her. Silence fell and after a moment he replied.
"Max."
"Okay, Max."
"So?"
"So, what?"
"So when are you leaving?"
"I don't know, when I'm better."
His face grew serious. His brows creating a crease in the middle as he concentrated.
"And when will that be?"
"When they complete a certain task."
"And what is that task, Sarah."
"What is this 21 questions?"
"Yes. Actually, it is. Answer."
"You can't demand anything from me yet, Max, you don't even know me."
"Well I'm trying to but you're making it rather hard." He replied smugly.
The air in the room was getting thick with the tension that was building slowly.
"What is the task?" He asked again growing more impatient.
"You know all of this already. I know you do, why are you asking me these questions?" She said quietly, her voice cracking.
"Because I want to hear you say it."
"Fine, they have to remove the tube that they are using to give me nutrients and to remove that I have to eat. But what if I dont want to eat? What if I just want to stay here forever and rot and die?! Then what?" She said indignantly, glaring at him.
"You dont. " Was he replied with a smile. That stupid smile."How do you know?" She scoffed.
"I just do. I won't tell you how I know but I'll help you find out."
And he smiled again and Sarah looked into his eyes and an idea sprouted up in her mind."So youre going to help me get better?" She laughed.
"Yes, I am."
"Alright, then, first things first, let's go to school." She said, grabbing a chocolate bar out of her pocket and shoving it in her mouth.
