"I should have known." Sarahlyn spat as they drove by her school, not stopping, not even slowing down and she realised that she had, in fact, gotten tricked.
She realised almost as instantly where they were headed as they continued down the street in the direction of her home. She glared at Max the whole ride, not holding back the insults and the threats she threw his way, only getting angrier when she noticed that he didnt mind them one bit.
"Where are we going now, you traitor?" She said harshly, although she knew all to well where they were going. She just wanted him to speak.
Silence.
She gritted her teeth at it and turned her head away from him, looking out the window. The view was amazing, it had always been. She never got tired of seeing the city from the hill tops, the shining lights coming on as the sun set, reminding her of a beautiful sparkling canvas. It was something that had always calmed her. Although it hadn't really been working right now, she made a mental note to come back here at this exact time to watch it all again, since she hadn't been able to fully appreciate it this time.
She sighed thinking about where this was going. She didn't want to go home. She didn't want to deal with her mean brother, her hateful mother or the atmosphere of that dreadful house. It was just too much. Sarah decided then that she would do anything not to go back to that place, anything to escape the inevitable, just for now. A diversion. Think of something quick!

"I forgot something at the hospital." She sputtered out, her voice coming out slightly panicked to her surprise.
He rolled his eyes. "What did you forget."
Fuck,THINK.

"My...my phone. I left it at the front desk when we were signing out. We have to go back and get it." She replied, her voice becoming slightly stronger and more convincing. He gave her a calculating look, as if weighing the pros and cons of going back right now and then turned the car around heading back for the hospital.
Sarah let go of the breath she didn't know she was holding and looked out the window, thinking of what to do next.
Ok.ok. So we get to the hospital, then what? I have to think about something. I'll insist that he stay in the car and ill escape through the back. Yeah... Yeah, that should work! I got this! I can do this!!
Before she had time to fully notice, the car had been set into park and Max was hopping out of the car and heading to her side of the door to open it.
"Wha- what are you doing. You can just stay in the car and I'll go get it myself." She stuttered, her panic returning.
He opened her car door and undid her seatbelt, leaning slightly closer than necessary in her opinion. He smells good, she thought, temporarily distracted. She was brought back to reality by the frustrated look on his face. She hadnt realised he had been talking.
"Did you say something?" She smiled innocently.
He smiled back just as innocently before replying  harshly "I said, 'Do you take me for an idiot? You dont think I know what you're doing?'" She jumped slightly at his tone and shrinked back, surprised to see him so... Angry. For some reason she didn't see him as that type of person, the type to get angry at her.
He looked at her for a moment longer, his jaw ticking furiously, his eyes narrowing into slits, leaning slightly into her, his arms resting on the sides of the open car door. She realised then that his question wasn't rhetorical.

"N-no. I just-" she tried to get out a coherent sentence but she knew she couldnt think of anything.
"You just what?" He spat.
"I... I don't know...", she sighed, thinking that honesty was the only way out now. "I dont want to go back home. I dont want to be around them."
She waited, expecting his face to soften with her explanation but instead it turned hard, his brows furrowing and a scowl appearing at his lips, making him look way more intimidating than he did before.
"God, you must be blind!! You have these people that love and care for you and all you do is whine about it and fuck yourself up! But for what?! I swear, I feel like you're just doing this for attention! Don't you think you're going too far? Don't you think you should call quits right about now and appreciate the things that you have in your life? Grow up a little and running away!"
She had lost all her words. She sat there starring at him for a moment before she let the words roll out of her mouth, the same words she always used when things got to personal, when things hurt too much.
"Fuck you." She let out in a shaky whisper willing her tears not to fall just yet, to wait a little longer. She made move to get out of the car and surprisingly, he stepped aside, as if he was glad that she would be out of his sight soon enough.
"Oh very mature, Sarah, you just keep walking away, run away like you do everything else!" He called behind her as she stalked off, she shoulders shaking.
This was the worst. This was the worst thing someone has said to her in her life. He didn't know anything about her or her family, who was he to judge?!
As she kept walking, she decided that he was right on one aspect, she was running away. She had a tendency to flee instead of staying and fighting. But no more. She stoped dead in her tracks and turned around, stomping her way towards the tall brooding figure up ahead and as she approached him, blinded by fury, she had almost missed the look in his eyes. The look of excitement and pride.
She went up as close as her body could get to his and kept her head high and spat as viciously as she could "You don't know a thing about me or my family or what we've been through! You're not part of this family or my life! Who the fuck gave you the right to make any assumptions about me you piece of shit!!" She scram the last part so loud that she internally flinched at it. She felt kind of bad for him and was actually quite worried since she had never been so angry in her life. She stopped because she was out of breath, as if screaming the last part took most of her energy.
" I'll tell you this, Maximilian," she said his name as if it burned her tongue just to say it.  "I don't need your help, your respect or your apologies, I need you to take me home and then I need you to leave me the fuck alone from then on, got it?" She stood there, watching him for a while, waiting for him to realize that, this neither, was a rhetorical question.
To her surprise, his face lit up with amusement when he realised and he let out a soft laugh that only confused her while adding to her rage.
"You think this is funny?" She sneered and he raised his hands up defensively, making this whole situation into more of a joke than it should be.
"No, not at all! You're totally right! I'll do exactly as you say." He replied jokingly, opening the door for her and closing it when she got in and moving to his side of the car, a smile appearing on his lips when he entered the car.
Sarah glared at him and he laughed.
"What, about this situation is funny to you, Maximilian?" She asked, her tone hard.
He looked at her with a sparkle in his eyes and started the car, heading towards her home. He nudged his head towards her seat belt, indicating that she should buckle up. And she rolled her eyes, annoyed by his attempt in changing the conversation.
"Nothing is funny, Sarahlyn." He replied smugly and she gritted her teeth. I'm going to rip his throat out, she thought to herself.
"You piss me the fuck off, you know that?"
She said to him and he laughed at that, an actual laugh! She glared at him, which only made him laugh more and she turned her head away, mumbling death threats under her breath loud enough for him to hear them.
After about ten minutes, he spoke again, his tone light and conversational
" I like this part of you. It's like all of a sudden you can say whatever you feel and stand up for yourself, it makes me proud."
