Gretchen looked around as she sipped on the barely digestible cocktail of whatever alcohol, juice and soda that a college student from Ohio deemed worthy of a party. It was not good by any means, but at least it wasn't beer.
Some pop song that she didn't recognize blasted throughout the house the party was being held. It was in a rich neighborhood so she was sure that one of the rich kids in the fraternity decided to hold it there, his parents were probably out of town.
Parties weren't exactly her thing for the most part. She enjoyed them, sure, but sometimes Gretchen wasn't in the mood to be surrounded by a bunch of drunk people, and today was one of those days.
Gretchen would've preferred staying home to study for finals, but her roommates insisted she come along.
"Gretch, you are nineteen! You need to go out and have fun, not sit in your room and stress about homework!" Cassandra had said, pulling out a random dress from Gretchen's closet, and threw it at her.
After much arguing and complaining, Gretchen finally caved, and went with them, but now they were dancing with some guys, and she was standing next to the wall wondering if she could some how sink into it to avoid all of these people.
Gretchen liked her roommates, Emily, Cassandra, and Melissa. They were all nice girls, and she had gotten pretty close to them.
She glanced around the room, people watching for a bit until her eyes landed on a gorgeous guy. He had long black hair, eyeliner smudged around his piercing blue eyes, high cheekbones, a nose and lip ring and a long, slender build.
He looked familiar, but she couldn't figure out where she had seen him before.
He sipped on the beer in his hand adorned with several rings, a cigarette dangling between two fingers as he talked to a shorter guy with olive skin, long mahogany hair, and pretty brown eyes, smiling up at the other man as they chatted.Suddenly the taller man cracked a grin, and suddenly it hit her. They were in the same English literature class. Gretchen couldn't remember his name, but the amount of times he's gotten into arguments with other students about whatever book they were discussing was comical, and he always smiled like that when he knew he was winning said argument.
Gretchen looked away when she realized she had been staring, her face flaming in embarrassment as she thanked whoever was listening that he hadn't noticed.
But when she glanced back, he was looking right at her.His face was serious as he studied her, nodding slightly as he pretended to be paying attention to whatever his friend was saying before he sent her a friendly smile that she immediately returned, feeling her heart flutter in her chest.
"Johnny? Are you listening?" Vic asked when he noticed his friend wasn't looking at him.
"Yeah, sorry. Got distracted." Johnny replied, turning back to Vic. He knew Gretchen, how could he not? She was smart, beautiful, kind, and everyone adored her.
He's wanted to talk to her before, but never got the chance, maybe he'd get to tonight.
Gretchen let out a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding when Johnny turned away.Okay, maybe this party wasn't so bad after all-.
"Gretchen?"
It appears that she may have spoken too soon.
'Oh god no.' Gretchen cringed visibly as she turned to see her ex boyfriend standing there with a couple of his friends with him.
