I woke up with a start my heart pounding ferociously and my mind racing endlessly. I wondered if my life would remain this way, every day with its shitty issues and problems. Oh! Sorry I am Andrea by the way an orphan with no relatives basically an island without trees. I live in a home for children that we are not allowed to call an orphanage because it made it sound sad so the sister in charge named it a home for children which of course I don't see the difference considering the fact that it serves the same purpose. I wake up each morning wishing I was dead because being a 16 yr old without breasts nor butt makes you want to be dead. Well what I lack in size I make up for in height I am tall and flat both ways. The boys at school taunt me calling me names like "under aged", "sunken chest" a phrase gotten from the movie pirates of the Caribbean which makes me feel sick each time I hear it. It always makes me want to skip school. I have never really had any friends both at home and in school because people view me as weird considering the fact that I wear glasses two sizes big and the same pair of trainers every single day. Well today wasn't going to be any better especially if I don't get my sorry ass up and get ready for school.
"Andreaaaa!!!!" sister Agnes screamed from downstairs. I was already in the bathroom shared by the other occupants of the home. I ignored her while sluggishly brushing my teeth. I came out and ran smack into Declan the slim wiry haired boy who was always in a brawl with sister Agnes over every little thing.
"Sorry" I mumbled trying to adjust my glasses on my face and walked past without sparing him a glance. I went downstairs mumbled a few greetings and turned into the dining.
"Morning sister Agnes" I greeted
"Morning Andrea I hope you washed your face?" She asked while trying to control the freckled twins from scattering the whole place.
"Now now Tom and Gina please don't do that" she said trying to stop them from hitting each other with their cutleries. "But she started it first" Tom whined "No he did" Gina retorted.
"Ugh!" I mumbled picked up a plate, dished my toast and poured my orange juice that tasted almost like water. I preferred sitting on the porch to eat my food in order to get away from the noise and chaos that always went on at meal times. I ate slowly knowing I was already going to be late, which of course I didn't care about considering school was the last place I'd want to be. I ran inside, dropped my plates in the sink, picked up my ragged school bag, mumbled a goodbye and ran out straight to school. "Morning Mr Grey" I greeted the hallway cleaner. "Morning Drea late today are ya?" He replied with a cynical smile. I gave him a quick nod and ran into my class.
"Stop right there Andrea your late to class again for the third time this week" my homeroom teacher, Mrs Eliza said looking at me with pure hatred in her eyes.
"I'm sorry ma'am, I couldn't find my glasses when I woke up" I lied with my eyes glued to the floor to avoid her from realizing the lie. "Oh shut up they are right on your face Andrea " she said and the whole class burst into laughter.
" No I ..mean.. yes...but.. I think..." I stuttered trying to think of what to say to save myself from the embarrassment. " Oh please go to your seat detention for you today" Mrs Eliza said and turned back to the board. I walked to my seat with my head hung down. I sat down with a plop and pulled out my notes for the day.
