Chapter 1

NCIS Special Agent Eleanor Bishop Gibbs was walking down the sidewalk to HQ when she heard yelling. Ellie ran. She reached the source of the yelling. She shoved herself in between her boss and another man. She said firmly: "Enough! Get a bloody grip on yourselves! You're grown men! Start bloody acting like one! Gibbs, cool your jets. I know this man. His name is NCIS Special Agent John Smith. He's with the LA division. He has a unique mode of transportation. I asked him and his partner to come here to Washington to help us with this case we're working on. John is a very good friend of mine. John is here because I asked him to." Gibbs said: "you should have cleared it with me or Director Vance." Ellie said firmly: "I spoke to Director Vance and he agreed to let John and Rose assist us with this case we're working on. If you don't like it, then tough. I put rule #28 in action. When you need help, ask. Well, I reached out and asked them to help us. I trust them with my life. Besides, they're working on a case that is exactly like ours. Gibbs, please, just give them a chance. You don't have to like them. But all I'm asking is that you give them a chance. I know it's hard for you to trust people immediately." Then Gibbs turned around and stormed into HQ. Then Ellie turned around and faced John and Rose and said calmly: "He's mad at me. He'll most likely give me the cold shoulder. But I really don't care. Hopefully McGee will be more calm." Rose said: "Ellie, are you sure us being here isn't a mistake?" Ellie sighed and said: "Rose, if I know Gibbs, he'll come around eventually. Just give him time. He doesn't trust people easily. My boss is also my husband." Suddenly Nick Torres came running out. He said: "Ellie! Come quick!" Ellie spun around and ran over to Nick with John and Rose right behind her. Ellie said: "what's wrong?" Nick said: "you'd better follow me. McGee and I were the only ones not affected by this. The rest of the building is sheer chaos." Ellie said: "guns out. Don't use them unless you absolutely have to. But they sure as hell come in handy when you're being attacked. I know another way in. Follow me." Then they grabbed their guns and readied their guns. Then Ellie led the group to a secret door. Ellie grabbed a flashlight and turned it on. She said: "the flashlight will temporarily blind them. Which will buy us enough time to get underground. First, we have to find the people who weren't affected by this. Good thing I changed the batteries in my flashlight last night. Come on." John said: "Ellie, do you have a plan?" Ellie said: "making one as I go along." They reached the top floor. Rose said: "oh my word. What happened here? They're all frozen." Ellie crouched down beside one Agent and felt for a pulse. Upon finding a pulse, she stood and looked around. She said: "they've been petrified. This didn't just happen. There has to be a reason. A common factor tying them together." Then McGee ran in. Ellie said: "McGee! Is that you?" McGee said: "it's me. Wait, how come you weren't affected?" Ellie said: "I was outside. Where's Gibbs?" McGee said: "follow me. And turn off the flashlight." Ellie turned off the flashlight and tucked it in her bag. McGee said: "you can put your guns away." Ellie said: "Until I know for a fact that I'm not going to get attacked if I let my guard down, not happening." Then they walked down the stairs. As they walked, McGee filled them in. Ellie said: "wow. So, only our team was unaffected by this." McGee said: "sounds about right. We called Abby. She's on her way here." They walked into Forensics. Gibbs was sitting on the couch with Tony and Ziva and Ducky and Jimmy. Abby came in a few minutes later. She said: "McGee filled me in. I saw the state upstairs and it looks like Pompeii only without the volcanic ash." Ellie said: "huh. That's an interesting description of the scene upstairs."
