“I don’t understand,” I doubtfully said still not believing what I heard.
“I said I will be your personal tutor.” He enunciated each word and was obviously annoyed to repeat his words. “I will help you study since obviously I am better at it than you and I am sure I can be a better teacher than most of them here.” he gloated as the usual playful smile peaked at the corner of his lips making him look so sexy.
But I couldn’t help but roll my eyes listening to him boasting his talents and mentioning that I was bad at academics. It obviously made my mood fouler than before hearing it from him.
“I understand, but why?” I was really curious about why his mood and thoughts suddenly took a 360-degree turn.
“Well, I just want to return the favor.” He said. I understood what favor he was implying, but it didn’t feel right. There was a selfish reason as to why I agreed to be his dance partner and also it didn’t feel right to receive something in return when we didn’t win. It wasn’t my mistake but somehow I convinced myself maybe it was because of my bad luck that we didn’t win.
“Yes, we didn’t win, but it has nothing to do with you and you know it,” Aryan spoke as if he read my flow of thoughts. “Moreover, it doesn’t matter anyway.” He added.
“So, are you in or what?” he asked me again.
I looked at him skeptically biting my lip. I understood everything he said, but it rather felt like a spider spinning a web to capture its prey than he just returning my favor.
Watching me taking forever to answer, he stood up with a resigning sigh. “Fine, take all the time you need, and if you decide that you could use my help, then meet me at my house at 6 pm.” He said and left the place without waiting for my answer.
Well, his trick obviously worked. My scale tipped to the side where I wanted to do it. He acted like he didn’t care whether I said yes or no and that made me want to do it more but I was still unsure.
“Deva,” he called out just before disappearing from my line of vision. “See you tomorrow,” he waved his hand with a playful smile and went on his way.
‘Damn, Aryan.’ He knew I would say yes and implied that he would see me the next day. I kicked my leg on the ground in frustration for being so predictable and walked to my room.
I thought about what Aryan offered, at night, laying on my bed. I definitely need some help with my studies but wasn’t sure if I should accept it. He confused me like the subject math. When I think that I understand him a little more, he just did something, throwing it on my face, saying that I was in fact far from understanding him. I guess he will always be a mystery to me that I could never solve.
Regardless of my doubts, I decided to give it a try since I got nothing to lose from it, and also as I said earlier, my mind scale always tipped to wherever Aryan was. Subconsciously I was wired to obey every command he gave me. He pulled me towards him like a magnet no matter what or how much effort I put to just walk in the other direction. I was also a little bit curious to see what Aryan was really planning with it. I wasn’t that dumb to just believe that he just wanted to return the favor. Who is he kidding?
When I stepped inside his house, the next day as he asked it was as calm as death can be. I couldn’t spot a single movement which was highly unlikely. I scanned the living room and then walked to the dance studio but there was no one which obviously meant that they were in their respective rooms or maybe on the second-floor balcony just hanging out.
