I told her the whole story. "I'm actually the result of a bunny and a fox." She was stunned. "I had a bunny father and a fox mother." She looked at me with a slightly unhappy face. "Are you saying my father is... yours too?" Jade asked, hesitantly. I looked back up at her face. "No. He was the friend of my dad. I was just getting to that." She gave out a sigh of relief, but I was too oblivious to realize.
"Anyway, Paine, my father, had custody over me for the first six years of my life. He abused me often and..." I paused, the memories of my childhood flooding in. Then, I continued. "And your father joined in every once in a while. They were both drunks at the time, and your father stayed over often." I scooted over to Jade and laid my head on her lap. She started caressing the side of my head as I let my secrets spill out like a glass of water.
"Your father didn't do much of the whole... abusing thing. My father hit me the majority, but seeing your father a few minutes ago gave me flashbacks I never want to have again." She nodded and stroked my head affectionately the entire time I explained it.
"Later on, when I was about five years old, people found out that my father was... well, my father. They lit him on fire as I watched him burn to death, screaming bloody murder." I teared up more and more as I thought about it. "They attempted at my death too, but they'd failed. I was saved by my mother, who had killed every single one of the bunnies that had tried to kill me."
"Deep down, I've known my mother was a psychopath ever since that day, but I've tried to ignore it." I buried my crying eyes in Jade's thighs. "Then, today happened and..." I looked over to my arm, sewn on. "I don't even know if any of my family is still alive anymore." I sighed, tears streaming from my eyes rapidly.
Jade looked to the side. "I understand now. I'll protect you if my father tries to hurt you, but I want you to listen to what he wants to say. This is a request, I'm not forcing you, Chris."
By the way she said it, I knew she didn't actually believe her dad would try to harm me, so I agreed. After all, she knows her father more than I do.
I followed her outside the room, into the hall, and to the living room, trailing slowly behind her. "James, Chris, I'd like you two to have a normal conversation." Jade spoke in a slightly raised voice to her father (apparently James.) I gulped loudly looking at James straight in the eyes. I mumbled to Jade. "I-I can't do this! He's too..." I stared at him again. "...scary." Jade stared at him with me and mumbled back.
"I know, Chris. Just... try. Please." I sighed looking at him, then Jade, and back at him. Suddenly, James spoke. "Pardon me, Chris. I do want to speak to you, but it's quite difficult when you yell at me." Jade was clearly becoming infuriated by what he said. "You will never speak to me in that manner again, young man." Jade snapped.
"Excuse me, Father? How dare you." She stood up and raised her voice. "You're blaming HIM?!" She pointed at me as James stared at her in anger. "Yes, Jade. He is perfectly capable of his own actions and what tone he uses with the president of this nation. Speaking of, I dislike your tone, young lady."
Jade and James went back and forth like that for a few minutes before I left the room.
