So they failed to ask Ava for her number. But it was alright, because Hailey was paying a lot more attention to her. The first day back she tried talking to her, but Amelia could never hear her because she couldn't ever hear people whispering to her, so the next day she just looked at her a lot and laughed with her at whatever it was people were doing. In the middle of class she threw a bracelet over to her, and they barely caught it. It was one of those handmade ones, with red orange and yellow yarn in it. Amelia wore it everyday until she lost it, but she had it for a week.
Next week she came over to her desk to talk to her, even if it was just for a second. It was the first time she could feel their cheeks burning, and it made her so stupidly happy to see Hailey that close to them. When Amelia was going to the MPR for PE Hailey called out her name, and immediately recognized it. When they said hi back, they put their hands out too far as they waved at cringed internally at how weird she probably looked.
Her best friend Taylor kept on telling her how obvious it was that Hailey liked Amelia back, but Amelia kept trying to convince herself she didn't. Just because she had made her a bracelet, always looked at her first when they laughed at something absolutely absurd, and walked over to her desk to talk to them didn't mean she liked her back, did it?
When she needed help on how to submit the assignment since they had to use a different program than they usually did, Hailey asked if she needed help and came over. With Hailey over Amelia as she worked on the document, butterflies were everywhere. Not only in their stomach, but they had managed to fly out.
They made her almost freeze, watching Hailey's every move. She was unreal, almost like a fantasy movie. There was no way this angelic person was really there helping them. After she went back to her desk, Amelia just stared at Taylor. Anyone could help someone out, it didn't mean anything. But the way Amelia felt even a couple minutes after she left and the way they kept meeting each other's gazes said the exact opposite
Why would someone who just wants to be friends with you even though you don't talk ever give you matching bracelets and help you with submitting your essay? Maybe a couple people, but when they thought about every interaction with Hailey it all seemed to click. Hailey had a crush on Amelia. Amelia had a crush on Hailey. It was the 20th of January and in about a month Valentine's day was coming up and she was going to ask her.
Trying not to get too excited about it, she went to her next class which was science. It was block schedule day, so they had two hours to think about everything that had gone down since winter break. Her initial plan didn't work out, but looked like they didn't have to make the first moves since she was. She would probably have to ask about Valentine's day because they couldn't imagine anyone having that much courage.
Eyes on the clock, they were ready the second it hit 3:05. They got out of there as soon as they could, eager to be able to talk to their other best friend as they walked to the area they got picked up. When they reached the area where they met up with their friends before they split up she caught sight of Taylor talking to Hailey. She almost ran over and said hi, but something stopped her as she kept looking for Liz.
They were laughing about how easy it was to make Liz's friend Madi so easily scared just by mentioning bugs. They pretended like there was a bug on her jacket and she threw her phone on the ground and screamed as they took off their jacket. Taylor came running over, looking as if she had just found Atlantis.
"I was talking to Hailey, and I asked her if she was gay, and she asked why and I said it was for a friend and she said she liked a girl and she asked who and I said Amelia, then I asked if she liked you and she said yeah!" she was squealing like a little girl, so loud probably everyone could hear them. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh oh my gosh!" Amelia couldn't contain her excitement at this, even if that meant there was a chance Hailey had heard them.
Hailey liked them back. And it wasn't just a guess, it was a fact. Hailey had told Taylor and now Amelia had to ask her. There was no way she couldn't. When they pulled their tarot for the week and for her love/relationships/dating it said that things may be moving really fast, they didn't expect this. When they got home she realized she was telling herself she didn't like her back, but had to remind herself that they had proof that Hailey liked her.
There was a chance of them being not only friends, but dating. Turns out all those cards they pulled weren't for nothing.
