Plans Unravel

A/N Sorry this is shorter and I haven't updated in awhile, I was going to update on Valentine's day to keep the story kind of on our current timeline, but I have been really busy for awhile and only had half and hour to write this. I'll probably fix later though.

So much had happened. Valentine's day came, and it was cute. Hailey made Amelia a playlist and Amelia got Hailey some chocolates and made her a card. Hailey and Amelia smiled at each other and tried to hang out the rest of the day, and when Amelia got home listened to the playlist and couldn't stop smiling. But Hailey and Amelia didn't talk for awhile after.

Amelia had caught Hailey looking back at her in class, and they were sure Hailey had seen them staring at her. But it stayed like that, this silence of not knowing what to say. Both too scared to risk getting hurt, Amelia having gotten hurt before. Amelia had so real idea of who Hailey had dated, if she had dated anyone. Which perfectly explained their situation.

They both liked each other but if they ever said they did it seemed too scary. So they stopped flirting, and eventually talking. When Amelia saw Hailey her heart didn't beat like crazy anymore, but their mind wondered why they both stopped trying. She didn't know if it was because their sparks were gone or they were too scared, since both felt the exact same. They still stared and talked in class, but everything felt fake. Calculated. Planned out.

Of course the worst thing happened, the thing Amelia had never really gone through before.

Feelings for a guy.

It was stupid, because started around the same time things died down with Hailey. He was in their drama class, and his name was Conner. It was stupid, really.

Illogical.

That the popular blonde guy would catch her eye, that the guy that knew everyone and always got people laughing at his skits would catch their eye.

Nonsense.

The guy who went to the same middle school as her before. The guy who was best friends with one of the kids in their math class.

Stupid.

It was unreasonable that Amelia could ever like a guy while liking a girl. When their whole life men never really caught her eye. That even though before she never cared about what men thought of her, one guy's thoughts meant everything to her.

It felt different. Girls felt like spring in a field of flowers where everything is peaceful, happy, and feeling in love. Girls gave them butterflies and made her want to never care about anything but them again.

Boys felt like the need for attention, as if theirs was all that mattered. Boys felt stupid but obsessed with answers, boys felt like a necessity while girls felt like the happiest and most peaceful heaven you could dream of.

Amelia overthought every comment, every look, and moment in a way they never had before.  The times when Conner looked over at her, or the time they were laughing at something and he turned to look at her. The time he caught her staring.

She couldn't get him out of her head, thought about him when they woke and went to bed. When they went to school they wondered where he was and looked for him when going into the lunch lines.

The time when they were in the lunch line he turned to ask Amelia their name. The time in drama with his friend he asked again. It just proved she was overthinking. But why would you ask? Why would you ask someone's name twice?

There was a reason, she was sure of it. He didn't like them, they assumed, but why did he seem to pay extra attention to her? When Amelia's group went up why would he look at her as if he was trying to solve a mystery. Why ask their name twice, once while talking to a friend.

Someone was talking about her and he was trying to figure out if it was Taylor maybe? Taylor's ex who liked her back? Amelia always forgot his name, but Conner was standing with him the second time he asked for her name. Paul, they remembered. Taylor had probably mentioned Amelia once or twice, so maybe Paul was talking to Conner about it and mentioned that they were in drama too.

But it didn't make sense. Even though she knew he didn't like her back, as much as they tried, she couldn't stop her feelings for him. She always looked to see if he was in drama, or to catch a glimpse of him at lunch. They hated it. But what Amelia was determined to figure out was if Paul told her. The easiest way was through Taylor, but she wouldn't be much of a help. Unless Taylor finally got back together with Paul.

Amelia almost forgot that Hailey was friends with Conner, and she could try and get the answers out of her too. She felt bad for potentially using her friend and someone who she got too scared to actually date just to find out why Paul mentioned her, but it wasn't enough to stop them.
