The time line of Z Nation and The walking dead will be changed to match the timeline of Z Nation to fit the story. So this is 3 years after the zombie apocalypse so it was a few months or something that Rick was in the hospital but Rick stayed with the group for a few years until the whole Sophia incident.

Z Nation Time...
Third POV:
It was currently 3 years after the death roamed the world and it was time for the human race to be "saved."
But if you want to know the whole story it's time to go to the beginning. Where the man who was a normal man at the wrong place at the wrong time was being strapped down on a metal table being injected with a substance he never wanted. His name is Murphy.
He was The Savior or was he?
Portsmouth Naval Prison: Infection Control Laboratory
It was currently May 5th 02 A.Z, when two soldiers of the Delta force of the original Operation Bitemark were running for their lives from the hundreds to thousands of zombies that were once human. It was until they ran till they ran into a prison. A solider shot at the dead hoping to give the two time to still run without having the death on their trail. They reached a hallway that had a barred door they decided closing it hoping that it would hold but in reality nothing is worth hoping for when the death always wins or does it? As the death finally reached the locked bared open door the two soldiers moved back as they saw the death piling up. The two soldiers fired at the death that was piling up at the door but they had to save their ammo if they were going to make it out alive. The solider that looked African American looked at the other and told him, " Save the ammo Valdez. Save the ammo." As they both stopped firing looking at the dead they were thinking of a way that gave them the opportunity to leave the prison alive.
That was when the genius that was gonna help them at the moment and the future started talking from the NSA Emergency command.
"X-ray delta this is camp northern light come in. Delta x-ray delta this is camp northern light come in," a skinny young white male said speaking to who ever was on the other side, when a tall young also white male stepped in the room the other was in. "Why haven't they evacuated?"
The young short male replied, "the extraction team is still in route. Their initial landing site was overrun and I can't get anyone from delta x-ray on the radio." The tall man looked at the computers added back to the young short male, "we'll keep trying . here are the new destinations coordinates," as the tall male placed a notebook the desk in front of the short male and added with speed and command, "Two more minutes and they are on their own. We evac as soon as the plane's loaded. Keep everything hot. Who knows we might be back someday. You have two minutes." As he was close to leaving the room he yelled out, "Move it people. Move it Hernadez."
And once again the white young short male did what he was supposed to do, "delta x-ray delta this is camp northern light come in."
As the death kept piling up trying to break through the door the short male's voice was heard through the radio. The african american replied with worry and speed trying to leave alive, "this is delta x-ray delta. Who the hell are you?!"
The young male finally introduced himself and replied to the solider, "this is Simon Crowler sir. I'm a systop working for the NSA camp northern light. I have new orders for you from centcom."
As the male on the other end of the radio was thinking about the time they had left he hurriedly replied, "little busy right now."
As Simon looked back hearing the plane roaring in the distance he said, "yes sir. We're about to bug it ourselves so i'll get right to it. I have gps coordinates for the new destination it is the cdc math infection lab on mount wilson. Here to escort Dr. Merch and any other survivors of this location . its already level one," Simon says reading from the notepad. As the african man looks at the coordinates on the screen of a device he looks confused and asked confirming, "hey are you sure? These coordinates given are in California."
"That's a roger sir."
As the conversation continued the pilling of the dead was getting worse. As Simon was trying to find a way to get the two soldiers out of the prison the african man said to Valdez who was next to him, "this gate won't hold. You keep them up as much as you can and you go fall back to the lab." As the man gave a few words of encouragement he ran off to the room where the savior was currently residing. He ran up the stairs reaching a door and knocked, only having to kill two zombies. In the room three prisoners were forcibly being strapped down on a metal table. As the lady with the white lab coat ran around the room getting the stuff reading, the black man closed the door behind him before entering. As the women in the lab coat went to the side of a prisoner who was soon going to be the savior, the black man was looking at the prison in distraught. "They don't look like volunteers to me."
The women replied back, "millions of people are dying from an unknown cause so these men are going to die to help us find vaccine. Maybe one of these men might out live us all. As the man knows as The Murphy in the future looked at the doctor with rage and said, "well why don't you take it?"
As the black male stepped forward he said with generosity he said, "don't worry. If it ends up bad I will make sure you don't come back."
"Fantastic."
Meanwhile, the bars of the door were starting to loosen and Valdez was in danger. But what they didn't know was that Valdez was already gone. The experiment went wrong the first two tries which led the the first two to turn and given mercy and now it was Murphy's chance. A knock was given and Valdez was shown through the peep hole. Valdez was turned and ran straight towards the male as the door opened but luckily he moved from the way and caught a male nurse instead. As he gave the zombie mercy and saved the nurse, zombies pilled up the room. The man gave the zombies mercy and save them from being bitten but the nurse didn't make it.
A helicopter was heard and the nurse with the man fled. Leaving Murphy with the zombies. Screams were heard when the doctor climed into the helicopter leaving the man running back to Murphy.
That was just the beginning of the future...
