It all starts when Sero hears the soft pattering of footsteps on carpet getting closer and closer to him.

"Hey, Sero-kun?"

Sero recognizes the voice but doesn't glance up from his phone. "What's up, Midoriya?"

A pause. "Um. So you know how you'd baked a bunch of stuff for your little brother's bake sale and brought the leftover goods to the dorms?"

At the sound of Midoriya's voice wavering, Sero glances up; Midoriya stares back with wild eyes yet a blank face. "Yeah, what about 'em?"

"Well." Midoriya smacks his lips. "About an hour earlier I ate three of your double chocolate brownies and now I can't feel my heartbeat and everything is fuzzy and I think I can smell colors."

Sero's eyes widen. Oh shit. "Wait wait wait, did you eat the double chocolate brownies that were in the red container or the clear container?"

Another pause. Sero's heartbeat picks up. "The one that's a bit lighter than Kacchan's eyes. You know Kacchan's eyes? Take that color, and add white to it. That was the color of the container."

"Shit!" Sero bolts up from his seat, hands gripping Midoriya's shoulders. "Midoriya, buddy. Listen to me," Sero starts, words slow and deliberate, "Those weren't normal brownies. You're only supposed to have one at most."

"Am I dead?!"

"Wh—No! No, you're not dead. Here, look. You can feel my hands on you, right? That's because you're alive."

Midoriya glances down at Sero's hands, eyes widening in realization. "Oh. You're right." He look back up at Sero, eyes glistening; dewy. "So that means I'm not dead, right?"

"Yes, exactly. You're not dead," Sero reassures. "Now how about we hang out in your dorm room until you come down?"

"But we're on the ground floor."

Oh boy. It's gonna be a long day.

"Wh—Midoriya no, not like that. C'mon buddy, let's go." Sero grabs Midoriya's arm to keep him steady and steers him to the elevator, mind racing.

I knew I should've just kept them in my room, Sero muses to himself with a sigh. Good thing Midoriya didn't go to Iida or I'd be dead meat.

Sero presses the button to call the elevator, then glances over at Midoriya. He's staring ahead, looking lost; bewildered, full of wonder.

The elevator dings and its doors open—

"Oh, Sero, hey!" exclaims Kaminari, a pocky stick poking out of his mouth. "Do you wanna ha—"

Sero wraps Kaminari in tape, dragging him back into the elevator along with Midoriya.

"Hey! What did I do?!" Sero ignores him, instead jabbing at the elevator button, causing the doors to close once more.

At that moment, Kaminari seems to finally notice Midoriya's presence. "Midoriya! What's up with Sero?!"

Midoriya doesn't respond, too busy staring at his hands in front of him while flexing his fingers back and forth.

"Midoriya accidentally ate from the edibles I made, so I'm dragging you along to help me babysit."

"What?! C'mon man, unfair!" Kaminari whines. "This is gonna be so boring !"

"You'll live," Sero deadpans. "Besides, Midoriya has a gaming system in his room. We can play on that."

At that, Kaminari's face immediately lightens up, his signature grin returning to his face. "Say less, let's go!"

"How can I say any less when I'm not even talking?!" Midoriya wails. His eyes snap up to Kaminari, glistening with tears. "Can you hear what I'm thinking?!"
