Chapter 7

• Flashback •

Zayn's POV

"Stop arguing back there!" mum calls at us. My sisters and I were bickering over something said. It was probably ridiculous but the situation evolved into something silly.

"I will pull this car over if you don't stop!" dad says. We shut up. He always sees his promises through. It's not that we aren't scared of mum, it's just that she forgets what she says sometimes. So really she doesn't terrify us as much when she's angry.

"Thank you. All of you need to be nicer," mum says. My sisters and I continue making faces at each other. Then Doniya complains.

"That is enough! You know I love all of you but you're acting silly!" dad yells. He continues looking in the mirror with an angry stare. He watches the road once again. I hear my sister sniffle, letting me know she's upset.

"Ow!" she says. "Zayn hit me!"

"No I didn't!" I reply.

"Uhm... Yes you did! Stop lying!" she accuses.

"Please stop," Waliyah jumps in.

"Shut up! This isn't your business!" Doniya says.

"Stop fighting!" Safaa adds. Soon, we're all throwing our inputs back and forth, making an endless fight of it all.

Both parents turn around to take control. Dad looks back every now and then to check for cars.

"That is enough!" mum yells. We continue fighting like she didn't say a word. I turn my head and immediately stop.

"Dad! Watch out!" I yell. The car speeds towards us and doesn't stop. Everyone screams as he tries to swerve the car in the other lane.

Too late.

I wake up with a mask on my face and bandages all over my body. I feel numb and pain and worry. I'm strapped down on a stretcher and see two people leaning over me. Their gloved hands are covered with... My blood. Where is everyone?

Lights flash and my ears ring as more and more sirens approach the scene. I turn my head and see three of my family members on the ground with paramedics. The other two, being my parents, are being taken out of the wrecked car. But are they even alive?

"Please! You have to let me see them! Please!" I beg. They refuse me and continue whatever they were doing. Tears trickle down in my ears and burn my eyes.

I turn to look again. They're now trying to revive them. All of them.

"We're losing them!"

"Look at me! Don't close your eyes!"

"Stay with me!"

That's all I can hear. Nothing else. Then it all stops. I hear my heart beating. It's faint but there.

Silence.

"Get the boy and take him to intensive care now. Call all of his local family listed to take him in case of emergency," a paramedic says to a second.

I feel myself beginning to fade away as if I'm falling asleep. That same heartbeat gets quieter and quieter until it stops completely. Dead silence.

I wake up for a second time in a white and sterilized room. The place I dread most- the hospital.

Needles and wires cover my body, invading my existence. A doctor walks in as if right on cue. My uncle, well family friend, follows behind.
