Sammy sat down on the floor and stared at the doll he had pulled out of his closet glancing down at his phone he read the next instructions to the game. They said to cut the doll open and fill it with rice. Standing up he went to the kitchen and pulled out a bag of uncooked rice and some scissors. Once he had what he needed Sammy made her way back over to her room. Opening the door, she went over to the doll and set the rice and scissors down next to it. Sammy's parents went on a business trip, so they were going to be gone for a few days which meant it was the perfect time to try out a game he found online. Hitori Kakurenbo or in other words one person hide and seek. It's a Japanese game that he had heard about from one of his friends. The game is very simple you find an object with arms and legs like a stuffed animal or a doll fill it with rice, summon a spirit, and tell it you are going to go hide and that it has to find you. When it finds you, the game is over and the spirit leaves. A very simple game that anyone can play. One of Sammy's friends Becca had tried it with a rubber duck that she had named Carl but since the rubber duck has no legs it didn't work. Sammy had suggested that he, Becca, and Oliver could play with his doll Rosie, but Becca had said no because a doll would be too strong, and the spirit might not leave. So here Sammy is proving Becca wrong.
Rosie was a sweet little doll that one of Sammy's grandparents had gotten for him. Sammy didn't remember who got it, but he liked the doll. Such a shame he had to cut it open. Sammy took the scissors and began to cut the back fabric open. Once it was cut, he pulled out all the stuffing and poured the rice in. After filling it with rice Sammy cut a piece of red string and placed it inside the doll with the rice. Once the string was inside Sammy grabbed a needle and pricked his finger with it. When blood started to form where Sammy had pricked himself, he smeared the blood across the rice. Sammy then sewed the doll shut and wrapped the remaining red string around it. Setting the doll down, Sammy got up and went to the bathroom. He filled the tub with water and went back to his room. Sammy checked the time and saw it was two-fifty in the morning, the website said the game had to start at three. Picking up the doll, Sammy walked back to the bathroom and set it down on the counter. He then went around the house and turned all of the lights off and turned the TV on. Once the lights were off, he went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Walking back to the bathroom, Sammy could feel a mix of excitement and dread pooling in his stomach. On one hand, Sammy couldn't wait to prove Becca wrong but on the other, he had a feeling this might end very badly. When he got back to the bathroom, Sammy checked the time. It was three in the morning; the game could finally begin. Picking up Rosie, Sammy closed his eyes and sternly said, "The first tagger is Sammy. The first tagger is Sammy. The first tagger is Sammy." Then he carefully placed Rosie in the tub. Quickly exiting the room, Sammy went back to the kitchen and began to count to ten. When he was done counting, Sammy walked back to the bathroom, went over to the tub, and picked up the doll. "Found you, Rosie. Found you, Rosie. Found you, Rosie," he declared.
Picking up the knife, Sammy stabbed it into the doll. Sammy then grabbed a cup of saltwater he left on the counter and poured half of it into his mouth. Setting Rosie down on the counter, Sammy took the now half-full cup and ran to his hiding place. Crawling into the tent he set up, Sammy slowed his breathing and remained as quiet as possible. The tent was full of Bibles, crosses, and figurines of saints that Sammy had collected before starting the game. From where he sat, Sammy could see the TV so that she would know where the doll was at all times. The website said not to let the game continue for more than two hours or else the spirit would be harder to extract. All Sammy had to do was wait for a little bit before going to find the doll to remove the spirit. He just couldn't fall asleep and that would be easy. Sadly, he was sorely mistaken. When Sammy opened his eyes, the realization hit him like a wall of bricks. He had fallen asleep. Looking down at his wrist, Sammy realized that he wasn't wearing his watch. How long had he been asleep? It couldn't have been more than two hours. Right? Grabbing the cup of salt water and crawling out from his hiding spot, Sammy looked over at the TV only to find it had been turned off. The house was pitch black. Glancing around the room, Sammy checked for any movement other than his own. When he didn't see any he ventured down the hall back to the bathroom to see if Rosie was still there. Sammy knew the likely hood of that was very slim, but it didn't hurt to check. When she got to the bathroom, Sammy found the door was closed. Sammy frowned; he had left the door open. Turning the handle, Sammy quietly opened the door. Once the door was all the way open, he saw the bathroom was empty. Well, one room down, now to check the others, Sammy thought to himself.
Wandering over to his room, Sammy felt eyes on his back. Sammy turned around and scanned the area, but he couldn't see anything. Brushing it off, Sammy continued to his room. Just like the bathroom, Sammy's room was empty. After checking every other room in the house, Sammy came back to the living room. Where did Rosie go? He wondered. He had locked all of the doors and windows, so she shouldn't have been able to get out. At that moment, the creaking of a door caught his attention. Turning in the direction the noise came from, Sammy saw that someone had opened her parent's room door. Creeping over to it, Sammy peeked inside the room. He didn't see anything but decided to check just in case. Quietly entering the room, Sammy crept over to the pile of clothes on the floor and began to search through it. As Sammy searched through the pile, he heard a giggle come from behind him. Whipping around, Sammy saw a black shadow dart across the room. Sammy sucked in a breath; he knew where the doll was now all he needed to do was catch it. Slowly walking over to where he saw Rosie go, Sammy could feel dread pooling in his stomach. Maybe he shouldn't have done this. Maybe this was a bad idea. Suddenly, Sammy felt something hit him from behind. Toppling over, Sammy landed flat on his face. Rolling onto his back, Sammy's eyes widened in horror when he saw Rosie clutching a knife and smiling at her. It's at this moment Sammy realized three very important things. One the fact he had swallowed the saltwater in his mouth while he was sleeping, two he didn't bring the cup that held the remaining saltwater with him, and three he should have listened to Becca. Before Sammy could react, Rosie swung the knife down and drove the blade into his throat. Sammy gasped for air, the doll pulled the blade out and stabbed Sammy through the stomach. Sammy could feel himself choking on his blood and he could see the blood pouring out of his stomach. Rosie stabbed Sammy repeatedly until he finally died.
Once Sammy's heart finally stopped the doll covered in blood stood there and grinned.
