Chapter 10

 Stunned by her bluntness Athena couldn't help but come clean herself. " What happened to the 'let enjoy each other in the time we have left" suggestion? Haven we've had this discussion. This is your doing, not mine." " I can't do long-term relationships." 

" Cant or wont Athena the two are very different, because im half in love with you already. I dont want to go home at the end of the week depressed and needy". Releasing their  entangled fingers Haven crossed her arms under her chest and sighed.

Suddenly afraid of losing her, but even more afraid of hurting her, Athena sighed " You're right. Lets end this thing now."

She looked at her with sad eyes. " That was quick"

Athena stood up, pushed her chair into the table and lend against the back with her fingers clasped in front of her.  " Well, then let me give you some reasons to make you feel better about staying the hell away from me. For One , I write about murder and you write about love. I work around the clock and have very little time for anyone. Ask Jan. I'm a loner and you're a people person. 

" I'm sure we could find some common ground, Athena"

She nodded slowly. " Probably and I enjoyed being with you, too much. But, Haven Long-term isnt mine thing . If i didn't have strong feelings for you, i would string you along. but I do and i can't. We'd be having sex"

Haven gave her a wry grin. " Now doesn't that just suck. We like each other too much to have more mind-blowing sex"

Athena gave her a small grin. " mind-blowing sex" 

" im sure you are aware of how great you are in the bedroom. For the record why isnt Long-term a thing for you?"

Athena inhaled sharply. " My mom ran through relationships like it was nothing. She never was with someone more thatn a few months , one year max. She always said the worst thing that could happen to a person is to fall in love with the idea of someone. My past relationship kinda sorted sealed that notion for me. I was with someone for five years and she betrayed me and almost gave me something i couldnt get rid of. Her reckless and uncaring nature led me down the path of bed them and leave them, it works for me. 

Haven frowned" thats crazy, every one derserve a chance ant love. Just because you fell for the wrong one doesnt mean everyone woman is wrong.. i.e. me . Im right here" Standing and leaning over the table, Haven touched the side of Athena faced " Let me in -"

She shook  her head. " I should leave. Athena wathed her wrestle with her emotions and she knew she was making the right decision. She was hurting her just by having this conversations.

" Well neither of us can go anywhere until the snow melts down some anyway. So i will stay away from you until then." 

Athena watched her walk out of the room with a heavy heart, hating the sadness etched on her face. Not being able to bear the sound of Haven crying, she decided to step outside and shovel the snow. 

It took three days for the snow to melt, Athena looked out her window and watch Haven get into her car and drive-away, without so much as a goodbye. Its for the best she kept telling herself.'

While standing under the shower head , taking a long hot shower, Athena heard the shrinking ringing of cell phone. Sighing she knew there can only be one person calling her right now. 

Taking several deep breath, she climbed out of the shower, wrapped a towel around her and stepped out, taking her time she walked over to her cellphone vibrating and ringing like crazy on her the nightstand.
