"So as I was saying, this piece will have to be Patreon exclusive. It's going to be too spicy for my Twitter" I said into the microphone, enjoying how well the stream was going. There were many active people and everyone was so excited I was back from my week-long break. As I ended the stream, I told my viewers that I would be streaming tomorrow and to watch my Twitter for a piece I had been working on that previous week. As I had finished putting my streaming equipment away, I heard a familiar beep from my headset.
An alert popped up from my discord, and a new friend request was odd. Maybe they found my account through my server and wanted to ask a question, the name was " ʚKamiɞ #0333", I accepted the request and waited for the message. I saw the dots appear, 'Oh they must be typing out a question or maybe even a commission request', they stopped for a second, almost hesitating.
Another alert, "Hey, I've been following your streams for a while and built up the courage to join your discord. I know you probably don't want messages, but I wanted to say I enjoy your content (maybe we could be friends?). The message was simple and had no grammatical errors, the person seemed genuinely nice and just was looking for a friend. I started to type back, just something quick as I had to go make dinner and get to bed early or finish the client work from the previous week.
I pondered for a moment, what would happen if I typed back and they misunderstood my message as passive-aggressive, or even that I was being overly friendly? I thought about it for a moment longer before typing back "Heya, I don't mind the dm, and if you want to keep talking to me, we could be friends. You seem genuinely nice and I like the vibes from you. I'm going to take a break for the night but I'll be back tomorrow :)". A few seconds later they reacted to the message with a heart and that's when I turned off my PC and started shutting down my setup.
I quickly sent a message to my server, telling them to have a good day/night and that I would be streaming at the same time the next day. I thought about the message as I made my way to the kitchen. I found it weird they were so anxious that I wouldn't want to talk, but I noticed they weren't always active in my streams.
I thought up some questions I should ask tomorrow to the person online, but for now, I had to figure out if I was streaming gaming or art tomorrow. The art wouldn't be done that stream and even if it were I would still have to do the NSFW version off-stream. I kept pondering my ideas as I warmed up spaghetti from the night before, I didn't feel like actually cooking a meal this late as it was 10 pm. I wondered if that person would message me as soon as I got online or if would they be respectful and wait until I messaged first. Well, that would have to wait until the morning, spaghetti was warm and ready to be eaten.
*Ring Ring*. I jumped, who was calling this late? I ran for my phone, completely forgetting my food in favor and seeing who was calling. I picked up my phone and saw it. My mother was calling, probably about my college plans or my not being married at 20. I clicked the accept button and said "Hi Mom, what's up" ?.
"What's up is that I've called 5 times and now you answer. What were you even doing, I expect you to answer my calls since I'm the one paying for your phone and internet" my mom yelled, she has always been this way—loud and brash sometimes but loving and quiet others.
I didn't know how to answer, my phone must've been on silent when I was streaming but even then, she knows not to call that much. "Sorry Mom, it's been a busy day and I must've put my phone on silent. I didn't mean to ignore your calls I promise. I'm here now though" I said, quickly trying not to anger her any more than she already is.
"I'm glad I finally have your attention. I'm sorry for yelling, it's been a stressful day and I didn't mean to take it out on you. But your brother, Amai asked if I could host the dinner party this weekend and I wanted to know if you're able to attend. Your siblings and I want you to come since we haven't seen you. If you can, just let me know and I'll plan transportation, so don't stress about anything" my mom said in a calm voice, my siblings were probably asleep.
I thought about it for a moment and then made my decision. "Of course, I can come over this weekend, I've been dying to see them again. Just text me before the driver gets here so I can be ready. How are they by the way? I only get texts from some of them nowadays".I said, trying to move the conversation away from my problems. I twirled my purple hair around my finger, trying to calm my nerves.
"Your siblings are doing somewhat okay, they miss you and will be excited to see you this weekend. Your sister Chiyo is on the decline again, and the youngest twins are heading into preschool which has been a lot of work. I have to go now but I'll text you this weekend about an hour ahead of the driver arriving, make sure you get plenty of rest before since your siblings will be so very excited. I love you, dear, please don't be a stranger next time" my mother said, sighing before we exchanged our goodbyes and ended the call.
I sighed and brought my half-eaten pasta to my bedroom, crawling under the covers before gobbling it up. There was nothing on TV, I was drifting off when I heard a bang on my window. Who or what was throwing things at my window this late?
