Chapter 1 NOT EDITED

I felt the soft breeze flowing through my fur and the crisp heat of the sun on the tips of my ears. I stood up and let out a long yelp as I stretched my stiff body. I must have fallen asleep  while on watch duty. I quickly shifted back to my human form and got dressed as I started heading towards the pack house when a voice popped into my head over the pack link.

Finally awake are we

It was Amy the packs Luna. Amy was my best friend. We have been friends for as long as I can remember. My older brother Law was her mate and our pack Alfa.

Its hard work doing nothing all day.

I responded through the link in a cheeky tone. It had been hundreds of years since the time when packs would fight over territory but my brother still insisted on having wolves petrol the borders.

I strode towards the pack house lazily. My shift had ended and I was getting hungry. I was still a few miles from home but I could already smell the stew the pack cook was making. I picked up my pace and started to sprint towards the pack house. Even in human form we wolves were twice as fast and strong as the average human.

I entered the pack house and headed straight for the kitchen. As I walked through the door I could already see Amy sitting at the table. I quickly ran over to her rapping my arms around her shoulders.  "how is my little buddy doing today" I said rubbing her swollen belly. Amy was about 6 months pregnant with my brothers pup and everyone was excited about the arrival of an Alfa baby.

"She is making mummy very hungry" Amy replayed in her usual chirpy manner.

"it's going to be a boy"

A low gruff voice came as we turned to see my brother walking into the room with a huge grin on his face. He walked to Amy scooping her into his arms and nuzzling her neck.

I turned away from the two when I heard someone else entre the room. My face reddened when I saw who it was. Cole was the pack Bata my brothers second in command. Cole was a very handsome man. He had dark brown hair that matched his wolf and was tall with a muscular frame and deep blue eyes. "I still need to eat you know." He stated with laughter in the tone gesturing towards the couple who were now sitting next to each other rubbing there noses together.

Law quickly turned to Cole who had now taken a seat at the table. "you wont be making jokes when you find your mate" he stated with an evil grin on his face.

At that moment the pack cook came in and started putting plates full of stew in front of each of us.

We all started digging in.

"I'm 21 now... If I haven't found my mate by now I don't think I will" Cole said sounding bored while scooping spoonful's of food into his mouth.

"maybe she is still to young... like Nina" Amber piped up quickly gesturing towards me. You see shifters can only form a mate connection when both wolves have reached 18 years of age. So the 18th birthday of a wolf is always celebrated by the whole pack and it just so happened that my 18th birthday was the day after tomorrow.

"its going to be a big party Friday" Cole said trying to change the subject.

"yah a lot of Alfas will be coming... you will have your hands full" gesturing towards my brother.

Being that my brother is our Alfa and my father before him I have Alfa blood and thus it is destined that my mate will also be of the Alfa blood line so all of the surrounding packs will be sending there Alfas and men of the Alfa bloodline in hopes that one of them will be my mate and thus strengthen the alliance between our pack and theirs.

Law looked up at me with an almost sad expression "it's your big day. No need to worry about me"

I walked out of the bathroom my damp blond hair tied in a messy bun. I pulled on a pair of jeans and a pail blue v neck t-shirt than sat on the end of my bed quickly glancing at the time. 10:23.

I was about to head down stairs when I heard a knock on my door than saw Amy poke her head in.

Amy was a thin girl with dark red hair and a slightly pail complexion she had the most amazing green eyes that you could look at for hours. Her swollen belly made her look adorable and I could see why my brother would stair at her for hours on end just marvelling at her beauty.

"can I come in?" she asked in a quiet voice. I patted the bed next to me and gave her a small grin as the closed the door behind her and sat next to me resting her head on my shoulder.

"Some of the Alfas have started to arrive for the party tomorrow" she said without moving. "One of them could be your future mate. Maybe we should go down and meet them."

I nodded slightly before turning my head to look out the window. "Amy. Is it..." I trailed off not knowing how to finish. She looked at me with confusion "what is it" Amy tilted her head slightly.

"well... was it hard leaving your family to come and live with Law?" my voice was soft as I looked down at my hands in my lap.

Amy's expression softened and a small smile came across her lips.

"At first I was afraid of leaving my family to go live with a man I didn't know... the moment I saw him it was like my soul had been in the dark forever and then suddenly this light flooded into it. All at one I couldn't bear to be away from him. Nothing was going to keep us apart."

Amy smiled and let out a small giggle. "I remember it was my sisters 18th birthday and she was so mad at me for finding a mate before her."

I wrapped my arms around Amy pulling her into a bear hug. "you always know just what to say" Amy gave me a smile than stood up gesturing for me to come down stairs with her.

I stood up and placed my hand on her belly patting it slightly "your mummy is so smart little one"
