Her midnight-hair flower over her relaxed shoulders as she sat on the edge of the school's rooftop, facing the backside, with her legs freely dangling over the edge. A book of fashion knowledge laid on her thighs as she took a few notes there and then while eating her homemade bento box.
She had her earbuds plugged into her ears, listening to soft music to blockout the loud students chattering in the distance.
Suddenly she heard the sound of light footsteps approaching her, before they came to a stop beside her.
She looked sideways, and was faced with a scrawny figure that belonged to a peculiar boy. The male had bleached blonde strands with onyx coloured roots. He wore a red jacket, representing Nekoma's volleyball team, along with his uniform.
He sat down next to her, leaving a wide gap in-between them.
The girl watched as he took out a pack of marlboro cigarettes, and pulled out a lung cancer stick. He held the cigarette in between his thin, but plump lips.
Inhaling the puff of smoke as soon as the cigarette lit up, giving access for the tobacco to infiltrate his lungs.
"Smoking is bad for your health." She said as she took out her earbuds, placing them into their case.
He chuckled before answering dryly, "No shit." The inky haired girl closed her book, then turned her head sideways to face him. "Then why do you do it, why do you smoke?"
"Because it makes me feel calm." He uttered, also turning his head around to face her for the first time since he had approached her. He wasn't usually one to approach a person first, but he found himself striding towards her, like a magnet.
They continued to stare at each other, taking in the others facial features. He took notice of the slightly smudged remarkable red lipstick that coated her feminine lips, her turned-up button nose, and lastly her alluring green eyes that reminded him of a forest. In her eyes he saw the colour of leaves and the very hue of life. He could also see a speck of the sun beaming in the sky.
He was so lost in her eyes that he didn't notice them scanning over his own features.
His tiny nose that faced upwards, his thin plump lips that were slightly dry, and his sharp piercing cat eyes, that were coloured in gold. The boy had dark circles underneath his eyes, showing that he doesn't get enough sleep.
He stared back at her, like a predator hunting for his prey.
She had never seen this boy, to her he was mysterious as so was she.
The boy was first to tear his gaze from the girl's captivating eyes. Leaving her to stare at the side of his face.
"So, you're part of the volleyball team huh?" She motioned towards his jacket. Although he didn't seem like a talkative person, she still tried to start a conversation with him.
"Mhm." His reply was short once again, but that didn't stop her from asking him more questions.
"What position do you play?" She asked with curiosity.
"Setter."
"Ooh, my boyfriend plays wing spiker." The girl smiled as she thought about her lover.
"Boyfriend?" He found himself asking. "His name is Semi Eita, he plays for Shiratorizawa."
The boy snickered at the mention of the setters name.
She raised an eyebrow at him. "What's your name then? Mystery boy."
"Kenma Kozume."
"And I'm Cairo Suzuki. It was nice meeting you, Kozume." She picked up her backpack, slinging it over her shoulders as the school bell rang in the background, signaling that lunchtime was over.
"So it was, Suzuki."
