CHAPTER 1 - THE SEVEN OF THEM

"Thanks for the lift Dad!" I yelled over the top of my head turning to face the bright red office building, the building dread of year twelve slowly creeping up on me.

"Adelaide, do you have any money?" I spun around to be faced with the two dreaded twins, my brothers Adam and Ardan. I remember those days when they were little and cute not like now though. One week at this school and they had already manage to get the nick name of the spooky so called 'Dreaded Twins' with the good looks. Kill.Me.Now.

Letting out a huge sigh I turned to face them, In all honesty I couldn't be bothered putting up with them. "How much?" I asked absolutely flabbergasted.

"Five dollars" Arden yelled with his left check dimple showing, "Each!" Adam yelled. I handed them there money and off they went.

The walk to my locker was short and quick; thank the lord for a top locker! Shoving my books and bag in the small locker, with a sigh, being the oldest sure does suck!

"Adelaide!" I swear to god.... my name should just not exist, Placing my head against my locker I felt two hand's poke either side of my hips, I knew who would do that my beloved friend Grace. I spun around and sure enough was face to face with the bubbly and sometimes to happy Grace Fields. Grace had been my best friend ever since year seven, at times though she got to me, always being way too happy.

I let out another sigh "Morning Grace" rubbing my eyes.

She shook her head at me "the twins got to you again?"

"Ugh the twins and all seven of them! Why Grace? Why can't I just have a normal family with one brother and one sister and not fricken 4 brothers and 3 sisters?" I shouted with a sigh. Yeah that's right, you heard me I have 4 brothers and three sisters and I am the oldest out of the whole bunch. Having a family of eight (10 if you count my parents) sure does have its perks, but in saying that there are so many downs to it also. We beat the Brady Bunch, and also that family of Seventh Heaven, we are known around town... simply cause other parents wouldn't even attempt to have eight kids.

"Now you listen here Adelaide-Dawn, your family is the most amazing family, you mum is amazing she would do anything for you kids, especially for you. And your dad? Well he is so caring and is a dead set larrikin"

I nodded in response. Grace was right they are pretty special.

'Ding Dong' the bell rung signalling the start of class, checking my timetable I realised I had maths, what a breeze. I grabbed my books out of my bag and headed toward maths when someone bumped into me. I breathed in, I knew that scent anywhere. Call me creepy but that is the scent of my Best Friend Jake Andrews, and quite possibly the guy that my heart lies with.

"Why Isn't it my little friend, Adelaide" Jake smiled with a mocking tone, his eyes piercing into mine.

Nudging him slightly so he would stop picking on me "Now Jake just because I am small compared to you, now there is no need to pick on me" sticking my tongue out at him.

"Ade, there is always a reason to pick on you. A) your my best friend... Don't tell the boys though they will get jealous and B) I love you" My chest tightened as he said those three most magical words, he didn't love me that was the most stupid thing I had ever heard... and I knew he didn't love me. See here is the thing Jake and I went out for a week, turned out he didn't feel like a relationship. I was shattered. After a while we became back to best friends again, always picking on each other simple stuff like that, but what Jake doesn't know is that I still like him dearly, more than a best friend should.

"Adelaide, Adelaide!" I was shoved out of my trance; I turned to see Jake looking at me in concern.

"I'm fine, no need to look at me like that" I assured him, although on the inside I wasn't so fine I was dying.
