The sun has already been down for a few hours now and the clouds are rolling in, meaning Ava will be asleep when I make it into the apartment. Looking up at the tall building with glass windows and smiling to myself, I whisper, "home sweet, home."
Taking a quick look left and right, making sure no one is near me to see my next movements, I take a step into the shadows and shadow-jump into my and Ava's room. Smiling softly, I place my bag on the ground at the foot of the bed, change into my pyjamas, and lay next to my ravenette roommate; holding her big pencil in both hands.
Realizing I forgot to brush my hair, I quickly get up, being as light on my feet as possible 'cause of the cold floor. I sit with my back against the wall, brush in hand, just as I'm about to bring it through my hair, I hear a soft voice.
"No, please humans, don't harvest my horns and suck my organs out of me," the voice said, as though the person speaking was sleep talking, but I must just be going crazy, it's only me and Ava in our apartment, right?
Quickly brushing my hair and getting back to bed, I grab my phone and bring up Wattpad, turning it to airplane mode after putting some books on for offline use. Making sure to put it on dark mode so I don't dry my eyes out more, I spend some time reading before putting the phone on its charger.
After a few minutes of me trying to fall asleep, the sound of our toilet being flushed wakes me from my light slumber, it also seems to have wakened Ava as well. She takes a few moments before noticing I'm in our bed with her and she engulfs me in a hug, before quickly reassuring me about the flushing sounds; saying we have some 'guests' over for a few nights. She also said that she has to go to the bathroom and will be back in a few minutes. A have a few problems with the 'guests' in our apartment, one, why do we have to have them on the night that I come home from my vacation, my head is aching from yelling tourists yelling at me, and two, who flushes a toilet more than one time?
She takes a deep breath and gets up from the bed, quietly stepping on the freezing floors and walking out of our bedroom; closing the doors behind her.
After a few moments, some commotion from the direction of the bathroom, she comes back into the bedroom and we both fall back asleep. Well, she falls back asleep, and I fall asleep for the first time tonight.
