The next 4 chapters will be in third person, and there will be one part for each house, and what is happening at the same time in each common room.

Ravenclaw

After dinner, the Ravenclaw prefects called for the first years to follow them. Kai and Rae, best friends, were glad that they had been sorted into the same house, despite the fact that they weren't with the rest of their group. The prefects lead them through the building, pointing out to which steps disappear, and warning them to be careful about the moving staircases. After going through lots of doors and hallways, they arrived at their common room. The Ravenclaw common room and bedrooms were on the north side of the building, and faced the mountains. The door to the common room was a large oak door, with a badger face as a door knob. Clustered around the door knob, were all the excited first year, chattering amongst themselves about what the common room would look like, and what the beds were like, and where they were going to sleep. Although everyone was muttering quietly, the overall sound was quite loud.

"Alright Ravenclaws! Shut Up!" shouted one of the Prefects. She was a average sized asian girl with long black hair that went down to just above her hips. She had it loose and it was gently bumping the side of her cloak. She caught Rae and Kai's stares, who had ben looking at her for a while, and smiled. "At least someone paying attention to me, huh?" she said to them. A small game of hot potato had started between five first years, and somebody was already on the floor.

"Damn it, I give up, I suck at this" said the boy on the floor.

"We'll keep playing until someone treads on you!" said another

"ALRIGHT, RAVENCLAW, SHUT UP!" yelled another prefect, a boy, with white-blonde hair and blue eyes. He reminded Kai of Jack Frost. "We don't have all day to do this and if you don't listen up, I'll separate those of you who are listening, take you through, and leave the others outside for the night, so shut up and listen." At that all the Ravenclaws went quiet.

"Thanks Henry," said the asian girl, "My name's Aline, this is Henry, another prefect," she said gesturing towards the boy with white-blonde hair, "and this is Juliette, who's also a prefect," she pointed towards a tall, scandinavian girl white blond hair and blue eyes. Juliette smiled at all the first years, who smiled back in turn. "Behind these doors is the Ravenclaw dormitories." A small murmur arose from the group of first years.

"Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?" said a shrill high voice coming from somewhere in the door. The students were shocked when a small knocker in the shape of an eagle moved.

"I said, which came first, the phoenix or the flame?" spoke the eagle knocker again.

"Alright everyone, to enter the Ravenclaw dormitory you must answer a riddle, given by the eagle. The idea is to only allow the intelligent people, thats all of you who were sorted into this house, to get through." said Aline, her voice lowered to a whisper, "I have to tell you, you've got to answer quickly or the little bastard gets annoyed and—" she was cut off by an awful high pitched yelling.

"WHY HAVENT YOU ANSWERED YET? DO YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME? WHO CAN TAKE THE LONGEST TO FIGURE OUT THE ANSWER IS IT??? WELL I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU! IF I HAD ANY SAY IN WHICH HOUSE YOU WERE PUT IN, I'D PUT YOU ALL IN HUFFLEPUFF! BLOODY IDIOTS YOU ARE!" screeched the eagle.

"—screams at you." Aline finished. The eagle opened its mouth to spit out some more rude comments on the school's sorting system, the students covered their ears in preparation.

"A circle has no beginning." Henry said to the now nearly red eagle. The doors swung open and hit the wall with a thud that made all the first years jump. The group entered quickly into the room. The room was large and circular, with a high ceiling. The walls were lined in reddish brown wood, the curtains dark blue, pulled shut to keep out the cold night air. A simple light blue carpet covered most of the floor. A large circle of white marble tiles were laid out in the centre of the floor. In the middle of the tiles was a coffee table with an assortment of snacks laid out. In between the bowls of dried fruits, nuts, and other small foods were tall candles, the light coming from their flames illuminating the space around with the help from the lights on the walls. Around it were armchairs and sofas. Shelves lined with books, wool for knitting, paints and brushes, spare quills and ink bottles, hid the majority of the walls, giving the whole place a sort of house library feel. One spiral staircase at the far end of the room lead up to the second level, splitting halfway there into two identical staircases, one leading to the girl's dorms. On the small area where the staircase split, there was a large statue of a lady.

"Okay everyone, this is the Ravenclaw common room. Here's where you'll spend most of your free time if the weather is bad. Up there," he pointed to the statue on the stairs, "is a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw. To your left are the girl's dorms, and to the right are the boy's." All the first years looked up towards the doors of their dorms, wondering what they would look like and who they would be near. "You'll find all your belongings are already upstairs. I hope you can sort out where you want to sleep without someone being killed, we've laid out your stuff randomly so I suggest you get up there quickly and sort out which beds you want!" Henry added with a cheeky smile. Nobody moved. Kai and Rae looked at each other in agreement and shot off up the stairs. The others followed split seconds later. The two of them crashed through the doors and composed themselves before looking around the room to spot the best beds. There were two in a corner with a little window between them, they looked like the best spots. Rae walked towards them and beckoned Kai to follow. Rae sat down on one of the beds and looked at the other first years running into the room. They all chose their beds quickly, pulling their friends along with them hurriedly. One boy called Matthew had walked into the girl's dorms by accident, and had gained a mouthful of insults and snappy comments from the girls inside. Luckily his friends had saved him a bed next to them. Kai hadn't really taken the time to look around the room much since they entered, he was too busy picking out his own bed, sorting out his belongings, and watching the others tumble over each other in chaos. The walls were the same as in the common room. The floors were wooden planks. The ceiling, however, was incredible. It was dome shaped and draped all over was a loosely hung navy blue fabric, with tiny, almost invisible little white stars. It gave the feel of lying under a blanket of stars on a clear night. The view was absolutely spectacular. Kai wondered how he would ever fall asleep in here, being distracted by the beautiful ceiling of stars. The room had settled a bit and there were people in groups in beds, talking excitedly about what the next morning would be like. Boys swapped timetables and chattered happily if they found out they were in some classes with their friends. Some people were reading, others studying, one or two boys were laying staring at the ceiling listening to music in their headphones. After about an hour of talking and playing games, an announcement came out from nowhere in particular, saying all students should be in bed and going to sleep. Kai and Rae lay down and pulled their covers over themselves, settling down to go to sleep. Rae fell asleep quickly, so did all the other boys in the dorm with the exception of one or two who had their phones out and were texting people in different dorms or houses. Eventually everyone fell asleep, leaving Kai temporarily on his own to look at the 'stars' on the ceiling. He was thinking about what the school would be like. Wether Jonathan would change, wether his teachers would be nice, wether he would make friends easily (other than his already quite complete group of friends he knew from before school). He fell asleep around midnight.
